C4 Slush bucket. Any good for offroad winch comps

Post by ludacris »

Doing some home work on what would work well behind my 302. Heard the c4 wont zap me of to much power. True or false I have noticed some of the trucks with Auto's are just slugs. What about the Nissan auto compared to the C4. My 4.5 patrol Auto is just a slug.

Pretty sure there are a few buggies running C4's in the US, but it's not the same use as winch comps.

I think that part of the problem with auto's is inadequate stall speed to get strong acceleration, but increasing stall has is own set of disadvantages.

I want to try and keep the acceleration of the manuel as much as possible. I suppose it comes down to the motor a lot. The 302 has a huge amount of punch from down low right through the rev range.

what about a newer falcon auto from the v8? do they bolt up? I know the motors are different. my xr6 auto shifts hard, although the stall is annoyingly high - the car will not support itself on the slightest of hills making 3 point turns a 2 footed affair!

Put a low stall converter (900-1000) and full manual and the usaul things to strenghten it and should be fine. Cheaper than the GQ by far

The newer falcon V8 autos have a different bell bolt up patern to the old. Would be awsome though.

Low stall sucks for acceleration, not so good for comps

I thought the bolt pattern was the same just the starter was different as it bolt on the outside of the bellhousing now

I will look into it as a 5 speed auto would be great. Although a lot more expensive to modify, purchase. As for the latest v 8's from ford, there are no adapters available as yet to bolt them to GQ boxes. So I am assuming that would be the same as bolting the newer boxes to a GQ transfer case.

if you are doing the winch scene seriously then why not put in a NV4500 5 speed and a NP205 (twin sticked for front digs and tuff as nails)
then you get the 6.34:1 'granny' first and a 0.7:1 fifth so you crawl when req'd and put it in OD and get to the next obstacle!!

or

http://72.20.96.178/commerce/ccpc1041-1 ... 0-8410.htm
and out in a T700r4 and a GQ tcase at least then the auto has ~3.2:1 low adn a good Odrive for outback stuff. and a reverve pattern compression braking valve body is available!!!

Yep it was weak on par with the Trimatic

C4 on par with a T350
C6 on par with a T400
BTR on par with a TH700R4/4L60E

Actually the Trimatic is a much more reliable box than the BW35.
