Diff ratio swap?

Is it possible to change from a 4.875 front diff (NH 3.0 v6 5 speed manual)
to a 5.285 front diff ( 2.5 Diesel )

Wanting to change (lower) ratios for better gearing for larger tyres.

Have read tech bible, but not very sure on the business of the splines.

the diff in the 2.5TD NH is the same as the auto (smaller than the manuals)
