GU turbo and manifold on to gq? straight swap?

Post by sidewayz »

hello

jus doin a bit of research in regards to turbo'ing a td42 (GQ)

just woudl like to make sure that the exhuast manifold and turbo from a GU 4.2 is a direct bolt on to a gq td42?

also, are the gu 4.2 turbo's water cooled only? or water and oil cooled? where abouts does the plumping for the water/oil lines go into the block?

whats else would i need to know about doin this turbo conversion to my gq td42?

also, any other options for a turbo conversion for the td42? (without goin to the expense of a $3500 kit)

sorry for so many questions, thanx in advance for any replies.

cheers

Yes the manifold is a straight bolt up. Factory turbo is both oil and water cooled. I picked up cool water feed and return from the front of engine near thoermostate. I picked up oil feed from rear of alternator and plumber oil return into sump.
Cheers

thanx for the info linc. do u happen to have a pic of your setup, mainly the water lines around the thermostat housing?

if so could you email it to mattysaidso@hotmail.com

also,

what size/style exhaust flange is the standard gu 4.2 turbo exhaust manifold? interested to know as some other turbo options may be an easy fit.

Have alook at 'Berreta's thread in the members section. I sold him a GU turbo system I had sitting at home, that I was going to fit to a GQ swb but never got around to it.

so the non intercooled version is water and oil cooled

and the intercooled (later model) version is only oil cooled?
