The GQ in trophy class with the front LSD was with-in the existing rules - sort of. The rule states 'the differential system for that make of vehicle shall be retained un-modified except...' Under this rule a Nissan Navara rear LSD (Nissan) with no modifications to the centre - apart from fitting the GQ CW&P (ratios are free) can fit straight into a GQ front diff.
It was a grey area.

Being a grey area, we discussed this issue at the meeting to obtain a clear ruling. The amended ruling states NO LSDs in the front of a Trophy Class vehicle. - That's it - clear cut.

This GQ is our vehicle - Owned & driven by Al Smith with yours truly as Navi. This vehicle, if ready for round 3 (as we rolled it at City View and have alot to do before the end of Aug), WILL NOT have a LSD in the front. This ruling effectively means that Al has a $400+ diff that is not much good to him anymore. But rules are rules and you play with-in them.

I'm glad that this was raised as it shows that the rules are not being amended with a mindset of "who will it affect?" but to run the event more fairly, more safely and more smoothly.

this my opinion only.
trophy and challenge class should remain controlled and affordable for those who want to enter the competition scene. what i think is lacking in queensland is an outlaw class to cater for those who wish to futher develop their vehicles. whether the tough tracks club or some other organisation would be interested in doing this, i don't know?
at the moment tough tracks competitors have the option to either go to a winch challenge type of event or superior allterrain. i think we need an all terrain event for full bodied rigs with minimal restrictions, something along the lines of tuff truck or woodpecker style. this way the guys and girls that have progressed up through trophy and challenge class have another event in the same style of competition.

Hi Brett / Linc,

I don't know how to set up a poll, but after the amended rules are posted and people get chance to read them, why not set up a poll to see what sort of response we get to a class beyond the challenge class specs.

It would be interesting to see which of those competitors in challenge class would want to move into an outlaw class - but could I suggest that the poll be set up after the updated rules have been posted please.

This is a wonderful idea. Mind you it is a shame that it is getting soooo technical. I don't want to modify my truck any further, I don't even want to go bigger tyres than my trusty 35's, my only biggest want was to stop breaking cv's by getting a gu front end, i did that last year and it's fantastic not having to repair a cv every singe comp i do. Now it looks like even my truck is out. It's a real shame, cause I'm literally just keeping my truck as is with just the usual TLC factor. Oh well, I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

ok, i got 2 things to say,
1 dont jump to conclusions on heresay items, before you read rule changes, you will find that your gu front in your gq in challenge class is quite ok.
2 maby ask the question of sombody who is involved in makeing rules, instead of listening to sombody who has a friend of a friend of a friend who might have been at the weekends meeting. this will help all involved instead of getting everybody on here confused.

I was up there over the Queens birthday weekend and the only difference I can see between a swag and a tent is the size, there is lots of flat ground. As for the tracks they are generaly dirt with rocks,logs in gullys and up and down hill BUT there is a LAKE that drains out so you could put 2 and 2 together ....Its a really nice place , might be a bit cool though

any mods that would normaly require a blue plate, will need to be done, as per all other rounds.
as for track building, RV80 is going up the end of this month, and also the start of next month.

in response to the rules being complicated, i think its necessary. i think the trophy class rules are great. as far as i can see they basically eliminate the ability to do any serious re-engineering. you gotta drive wot u got. it makes being competetive very affordable. a great way to start competitive driving, and bring new faces to the sport. challenge class allows guys with the knowledge to build wot they want, but the class still not be drivin by $$$$$, due to the rules. as for an outlaw class, i love the idea. theyre a great draw card for spectators, and who doesnt like to watch them walk wot u just got stuck on. id definately come n support it. love the whole series and am lookin forward to my first time competing in august!

Send me a colour copy with any changes in red please Brett/Peter.

Says isolation switches must now be mounted outside of vehicle in one section but then another section says withing reach of "crew"...........what is considered "crew" driver and navi? When I receive new rules in red I'll change what ever I need to in order to comply.

Clarification on 3.4.9 if I could please

Are standard air shocks (non adjustable from in cab) allowed?

Are air bags allowed when used in conjunction with a leaf or coil spring?
