Classic RR pitman arm - replacement options

I have a 80 RR and the pitman arm is flogged out. It is the tye that has the ball joint in the end of the arm. I bought a rebuild kit for it only to find that mine has been welded where the circlip would usually sit. I would have to remachine the circlip groove and that will be a PIA.

I have been told there is another type of pitman arm you can get that does not have the ball joint in the end but just a taper and will accept a tie-rod end the same as the other 3 on the front end.

Any one seen these? Are they better or worse?

The early pitman arms were not rebuidable so yuors has been cut open fitted with a new tie rod and then welded up. I would get a rebuidable one from a mid 80's Rangie and then fit a new kit to it.

You could fit the pitman arm off a newer box (4 bolt steering box) of say a disco and then fit a tie rod end into the steering rod (it's left hand thread so you would need a tie rod end in 11/16" thread, part number through pedders suspension is PTE626L)
