Big Death Wobble

I know, if they're tight they should be ok, right? That's why i was wondering why people often say to replace old u-bolts - can they be stretched out of shape and not seat properly, maybe? Video camera sounds like a good idea!baddboy wrote:I Had them replaced when the Ubolt flip kits went in 6 months ago. Checked and they are tight, Why would replacing them make a difference. I could understand if they were stuffed. Not saying it couldn't be the fault, I am sure someone will explain it to me!!
I have noticed a slight roll or distortion/bow in the U-Bolt plate, although again everything is tight and no movement is evident.

I put an old man emu steering dampener on mine and i'm pretty sure it's fixed it - not such a big problem after all
My old one wasn't too bad apart from ~2" of it's travel where it did nothing at all - probably why the wobble usually started when i had a bit of steering lock on.

Still got the problem and have done the foolowing since last post:
Wheel alignment with castor of +0.33 left and +0.19 right. Is that enough?
Bearing in mind nothing has changed on the truck and this setting was fine for a year or so.
New tyres front and rear
New front shocks
New suspension bushes
Ideas guys????
Cheers

Just a thought , mine did it the other day again , what angle are your king pins running , I was told to take a couple of degrees out and that that would help , has this changed , I am also fitting a second 100 series rancho dampener on the rod between the diffs , I had a look out the window and the wheels where going back and forth rather farken quickly from left to right so I am wondering if that spring return dampener is not helping , Cheers Paul.
BLOWNZUK 1.3 efi,sc14 supercharger,hilux diffs,detroit lockers,stage 4 rockhopper,6 point cage,35 muddies.
had the same prob in my mk patrol Changed every thing you could think of shocks, springs, dampner shackles all steering componets, power steering box and pump, but to no aval final changed front diff because i broke a cv and this fixed the prob i would be looking at king pins and wheel bearings i did check these on mine and seemed ok but obviously not so check them
It could certainly do with more castor, at least a degree extra would be a good start, it must be a wandering pig to drive even when its not wobbling.baddboy wrote:Still got the problem and have done the foolowing since last post:

Get a pair of two degree castor wedges and put them, it will make it better to drive even if it doesn't fix the wobble.

Update:
Problem solved.
Was a combination of wheel bearings and king pin bearings. Replaced the lot and it drives like a dream again.
Put longfields in whilst we were at it.
Sort of annoying though as everbody who checked the vehicle said the bearings and kingpins were fine. Don't take anybody's word for it these days.......
