Your Shocking views ?

After getting new tyres & wheels last week,33"x12.5" MTZ's & 15"x8" black
steelies Iv'e discovered my rear shocks are both shot and the drivers
side is sitting about 12mm lower because all my tools & recovery gear and
the heavier spare are all on that side.
So Iv'e been looking at shocks & rear springs,and am tossing up between
TJM XGS, Pedders, OME, and maybe Toughdog.
I realise there are better brands Koni etc... but my finances have been
depleted due to the new tyres
What are your experiences with these brands,good and bad ???

Personally, I have a thing about Pedders - I won't go there.

I have OME, and think they're a little underdamped when I'm fully loaded. Other than that, I can't say they're bad.

I wouldn't put Koni's on the front of mine, because they don't suit a Paj with trimmed bump stops - as Errol found out the hard way.

I have looked at, and would probably consider again, Rancho 9 series. I'd prefer the in-cab adjuster, but the $$$ just keep adding up - so it's unlikely I'll ever do it.

I have tough dog and i think they are pretty good ha them in for 2 years and i tow atrailer everyday.

go EFS, good ride, good price.
And no i don't work for them
i just fitted extended shocks and a mate with my old j top fitted EFS springs and shocks about 9 months ago and loves em

I was in the same boat as you my rears were shot... I now have some Rancho 9000 in there and they are excellent, other than that though my car is stock. But I cant fault them on or off the road, although I do run them on the harder settings when on the road.

I have and will always stand by the ranchos - they have been great for about the last 5 years (not cheap but in my opinion worth the money)

One thing to watch is the diameter of the base of the shock - if you get "good" articulation or use the car for "decent" offroading the shock does/will foul the rear trailing arm causing some very nice dents in the base of the shock housing.

I have heard tough dog are good aswell but watch the diameter of the unit. In the end it comes down to what you use the car for and what you expect for price.

My 2 cents worth. I fitted pedders foam cell shocks to my Triton and could not be happier, also fitted some to a 2004 hilux and gq patrol and both drivers said there was a huge impovement to ride and handling.
