gq ratios and tire size

Post by mudmav »

Hey guys just a question i am thinking about fitting 4.6's to my shorty gq as it becomes fairly sluggish when i put the 35's on. The only thing is that the local cops in my area are starting to pay more attention to 4wd's with 33 inch plus tires. so i would like to run 31s or 32s on the road. i only do 200km a week to and from work and as im a night shift worker the roads are fairly quiet. my question is will the car be undrviable with 4.6's and 31 or 32 inch all terrains. i never really do over 80kms an hour unless im going away and then i have the 35's on anyway. So what do you guys think will the car be drivable on the smaller tires with 4.6s or will it rev way to hard. Oh just in case anyone says about doing transfer case gears. the car doesnt go to bad in low its in high that it gets sluggish and as i do quite alot of high speed dirt driving it becomes a pain when you either have to hold the car in 3rd gear and rev the crap out of it or go for 4th and then be fairly sluggish. so what do you reckon guys?????

I loved my rig with 4.62 from a 2.8td GU and 33". So much power and control.... went to 37" because I needed the clearance!!

2.8 TD's have a different gear box to a 4.2, if u run a 2.8 the 4.6 diffs will be ok but im assumin that if u want 4.6 u will 4.1's or lower, so yeh it will rev hard at 100 on anything less than 35's, but with 35's ur speedo will almost be spot on, mine is anyway i run 35 BFG muddies as my roadies
