5 inch lifted 80s springs will give you 8 inches of lift (that is on a disco aren't rangie springs longer than disco)rusty_042 wrote:![]()

holy crap lol so running 5" lifter cruiser spring in my rover once i have done the toyo conversion is prolly not the smartest thing
how did u get around the base of the spring don't they com into a smaller point then rangie springs?? eg range spring same top as bottom face?

for 37s, I'd still go with a set-up that would least upset the suspension geometry, let alone the steering one...
2" OME, cutting/flares, 2" Body lift (engineering issues in Aust?) and that's that...if I'm 6" wider, all the better...if not, its been proven to work...
Good on you to tackle something differently...

Discodino, there's no problem with the legality of bodylifts in australia. Technically though, you are only permitted to increase suspension height by 1/3 of the original distance from the axle to the bumpstop. There are few restrictions on guard cutting.
Cooter, Stable or not, you still haven't answered why you are running so much spring lift. Your shocks are massively too short unless you have significantly lowered bumpstops. I should be seeing about 9" of shaft on the front and rear shocks there, or are you using the shocks as bumpstops?
Those front radius arm angles are freaking me out too.
There is no good reason to run a car any higher than necessary to fit the tyres in.

Too tall.
My Rangie when it had nissan diffs was running 2" 80 Series springs which gave it a 4" lift, I was running 35's and no body lift and It flexed well (although the front was limited due to the radius arm design). Mine was heaps stable (for a big rig).
You said it's stable now, but imagine how good it would be 3" lower....

I honnestly don't mean to sound, well, mean...BUT that's seriously not stable-looking...now, me here in NYC and BS-ing about a picture of the internet doesn't make much sense, however, I can tell you that I did run a 10cm lift once on my Disco (2" blocks, 2" springs) back in 1998 with the 5.5 rims and 32" BFGs...all I can say is never again...dropped it down to 2" (took the blocks out) and it performed MUCH better...been on 2" since 2001 while my tires grew to 35s, 37s and now 42s...cooter wrote:![]()
Bottom line, if you want to fit 35s on a Disco for droop, regardless of the diffs used (mogs, stocks, Toys, Patrols...etc...), thare are far better/easier/safer/stablier ways of doing so.
Again - good on you for doing what you want to do...but its not going to perform as great as a low lift one will - physics.

thank god you are not in Vic as I would be scared to be on the tracks the same day you are..cooter wrote:yeah im hearing ya but with the extra length in the springs it lets me run realy soft spring which close up real nice and 2inch 80 springs on a disco give it 5 inches of lift not 4
i was running 2 inch 80 springs but they were real soft which was good but i was not overly happy with the way they stretched due to being retained the longer springs seen to flex up nicer and more controlled i have been progressively goin higher from 2 inches up till now and it has been performing better and better
still has about 2 inches of droop left best spot i could find to flex it up
That is just rediculous man.. do you even know anything about roll centres, anti-squat and general suspension and steering geometry..
Pull it all out.. run as minimal lift as neccessary to fit your tyres (which you dont have).. and fit lockers... simple..
Again good on you for having a go, but I would be seriously worried about roll-over here. My experience is like Disco Dino in that when fitting 36's we kept the body lift and spring height as low as possible (approx 4 inches overall). As well we widened the track by 3 inches overall.
High spring lift looks very impressive, but sometimes misses the point. I think less lift and more droop is better from a COG point of view.
Interestingly when parked at a recent Tassie comp we overheard an 'expert' say, "look at that (our Disco), there's only 4 inches of up travel on the rear HA HA".
Well YES Mr R Cranium....that's the way it was designed....for both stability and incognito efect with the law......but it has 2 foot of down travel:)

Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
I AM OVER DEFENDING MY TRUCK there is some narrow minded people here
what they fail to realise is that it is the same track as a gq and parked next to a 4 inch lifted shorty the shorty is the same height and nobody is baggin the gqs on 4 inch lift i fail to see the diference but iam sure you will find one

no comparison.. you are doing things that people have tried and have failed with...
deal with it... make it right before you roll and hurt yourself or worse, someone else...
