Back a little more OT, i was surprised to see more competitors straying from the full muds (interco/simex) to less aggressive radials (MTZ/procomp extreme/xterrain etc). They seemed to do reasonable well, the only clear advantage to the more aggressive tyres was in the bog holes. Was this also the case on friday and saturday?

The big rock hill was all there on it's lonesum with people sitting on it! Has to be brought back for next year!
Was talking to some guys in the morning when we got there and they turned out to be off here so that was pretty cool but once we introduced our selves about 4 more people came out and said they were from OL as well!
The guy in charge of the whole show was screamin over the UHF all day and was confusing every other marshel competerter and every one in the crowd!
I think the idea would be good if there was some heavy winching to seperate a few people!
Then there was the last loop...... After about an hour of nothing they started preparing the next loop! Every one thought they were driving up a hill and might need a winch but they cut that out so the people up there deffinatly let the organisers no what they thought!
As for the tree !
Drove the 4 hour hour loop and all i can say is the last 2-3 years have been awsome and hope next year it will be back up to scratch!
Alot of un happy people and when one guy said something over the radio about it not being run up to scratch i wouldn't of delt with it how they did! Deffinatly not the way to deal with it!
BUT still i like the sport and there was some awsome trucks gettin around!

i was there also, had a blast lookin at the trucks but was amused all day by the uhf in the pocket listening to the VERY UNORGANISED EVENT..
i understand an event like this takes a lot of preperation and to all who were involved done a great job. except:
it has always been great family day out and has plenty of action. but it was without fail the worst event i have ever seen. poorly organised couldnt see a bloody thing and if i wanted to see trucks race around a paddock all day i would have gone to my mates paddock and ripped it up with him.

if you stop yellin at your crew and actually listen to them and get off ya high horse, people wouldnt have left in disgust and when people start tellin ya that the event needs improvment dont be a hero cause they arent comin back and most of us spectators were mad ..the entire crew today busted there balz to make today work and it sorta did but with many complications.but it was obvious communications were at fault. volunteers are not there to be spoken to like sh*t

Have you ever played a major role in organising an event? If so then by all means give some CONSTRUCTIVE critism but if you haven't then you certainly wouldn't understand what's required to run one.
Jonesy is well respected as a past competitor, spectator leader at the OBC, Stage Manager and now a marshal organiser. Those that know him, know how to take him and have that respect for him that you obviously don't.
As for the your statement "without spectators there aint gonna be a sport", I think your fairly incorrect Without guys like Jonesy and the other volunteers there wouldn't be a sport. I'm pretty sure the Ateco, Vic Winch, OBC, Alpine Challenge etc. aren't driven by spectator numbers.
And I'm sure you won't be missed if you don't show up to spectate next year. The sport will go on without you.....

Anyone got any pics from SS8? As I was stuck up the top most of the time. Doing the paper work.
I was there from friday Lunch time. As some mates and I where running a SS1 and SS8. We set our stages up. SS1 was pretty much similar to a sat stage from previous years.
But SS8 was to be mostly new. But after it was finished and bunted. It was decicded to change it as it would had to have been a 30min DNF. But with the changes it turned out to be a nice fast courses with only Trent Leen driving the hill. Think Dave was happy with that.
Fastest time was 1:24, slowest scored time being 11mins.
Laurie S had the tree jammed under his car on SS8 and one of the marshals supplied the chainsaw to cut it out. As it was jammed up above the drive shaft and took out the battary leads which run on the underside of the trans tunnel. The branch hit the isolater switch.
As for the organisation. For friday and sat everything seemed to run pretty well. As per normal, things where slow to kick off. Only not so good plan was putting 2 groups at SS1 and none to SS2. So it made for a back log and a late night. But I can understand why this decision was made. As parking at SS2 was at a premium (SS1 basically fed into the start of SS2).
On sat we where glad of the delay as the course needed to be changed slightly. Due to a request by the property owner. But the stage was still fine. It just took out possible 3 winching spots.
All in all it was good. Oh and thanks for the bonus lunch. I we didnt get that we wouldnt have eaten anything good at all.

I too was very dissapointed - the last few years we have attended Sunday and had an awesome day - we know a few competitors, and it is always exciting.
However, after a 2 hour trip each way, not to see any winching at all, and just to see mostly flat track was s***house. Alan's property is awesome, why not use it????

Well i am no longer an Ateco Virgin.. In fact i think i was raped by the Ateco. That was hard work for a body that wasn't built for running!
The stages were fantastic. In defence of the organiser i have to say that a BIG part of the organisation issue were due to land preservation management. Alan didn't want his creek croosings torn to bits and some of the hills were bordering on dangerous given how slippery they were. Thing had to be changed as conditions changed.
I would like to thank the organisers for there time and efforts. Jonsey had a tough job and from our end seemed to manage it ok.
Roger smith had his finger on the pulse and was always there to point us in the right direction.
For all the other marshalls at stages a Huge thank you, we appreciate what you do even though we may not show it at the time.
A Big thank you also to all the spectators who came to support us and the event. Please don't be dis-heartenend and come back next year as we need you guys and gals to help the event grow and better itself. Conditions were tough this year and we all make mistakes.
And to all the other competitors also a big thanks. Congratulations to all who suceeded in the event and in there own right.

Since it is the spectators who buy these products they are supporting the sport...do you think AFL or Cricket would be supported and ran if no spectators were there?
Whilst I am certain that the volunteers and marshals etc. did their best, the event was unorganised and very confusing...and a lot of people were dissapointed...
Better luck next year - I did like the 2 car's running at the same time...
