Engine Conversion - Gen 3 into Jeep CJ7

I currently have a 307 chev with turbo 400 in my Jeep CJ7. I'm going to change the auto to a turbo 700 for better highway driving. Considering on a Gen 3 LS6 conversion but I'm not sure what would be needed to get it engineered... I'm located in Brisbane and wouldn't mind talking to a local engineer to find out what's involved. Does anyone know an engineer or has done a similar conversion?

Any help is appreciated...

hey, i looked into buying a jeep with a 400 chev and t350 the car ran 35's and he had a problem with breaking axels and tail shafts.
extra power comes at a price and if the 307 isn't broke why not keep it.
but changing to a 4spd auto is good idea, there not as strong as ur t400

I have a couple of 40 series axles with air lockers sitting around and they are a common conversion for Jeeps, along with a couple of 60 series tail shafts (that will be shortened) and transfer case which should hold up (for a while atleast). The 307 is pretty tired, I could just rebuild the 307 but for the price you can get a Gen 3 for these days I just don't see the point... I plan to actually keep this car for a while, i need something for a weekend / tow car... the sti wouldn't go that well up the beach!

So anyone done a Gen 3 conversion? even a injected v8 in an older 4x4 in queensland?

Very common swap in the US even can buy pre-made engine mounts and conversion wiring harnesses if you wish


In Australia, from an emisions compliance perspective you will need to comply to the ADR's related to emissions for the year of the engine

The rest will fit under standard engine conversion rules and as it is a full chassis with a 4.2 as the highest available capacity it leave you a lot of engine choice options

EFI CJ7's are they only way to go I have a Jeep 4.0L and aw4 4 speed auto new car in old style gives best of both worlds

The pre-made mounts and harness sound good, I'll try source as many parts as I can through the US to make the job easier. I still will have to talk to someone in Brisbane that can do the mod plate before I go to far into it...

I've so far got the engine L76 6.0 crate motor & 4L65E auto. Next is transfer and diffs... open to suggestions... The motor will be around 300kw once tuned and running 36" tyres...

Transfer ????

Diffs GU Patrol? F Truck???

Please Help! want to get this going for summer, just need to be pointed in the right direction...

theres a guy selling a front dana 60 and a rear 14 bolt for $2000 both are common swaps for a jeeps in the states.....but these are full width axles
i don't need no stinking quote for my sig. line!
