I don't know about QLD, but it is not illegal in NSW, just to clear this up for others.

From RTA Website:
Minor protrusions forward of the bull bar or bumper bar such as a spotlight, or fairleads required for the operation of a winch, where the mounting brackets do not protrude, are permitted providing the protrusion is the minimum necessary and is blunt or protected to minimise any risk of injury to vulnerable road users.

This is a design issue for sure ... the plastic in the lights should be mounted far enough back so the first thing to bump into the immovable object is your bullbar.

It's a little hard not to when that's where ARB put the tabs, and that's how long the LF light is. There isn't any way in which you CAN mount these inside the bullbar.
Secondly, the last set of rules I saw allows spotlights to protrude provided the mount is on the inside of the bullbar, and the amount they protrude is within x (and I don't remember the x but I'm sure the LF's fall well within the range).

Secondly, I didn't "whinge before contacting the manufacturer", I came here to see if this was a common thing that others had seen - hence the title being addressed to dealers - or whether this was perhaps something a tad unusual and worth contacting the manufacturer about. Which from this thread it would appear it is. And I can't fault LF's service so far, they got in touch with me very quickly, and asked for further contact details so that they could contact me more efficiently, it was myself that was slow to respond to the last request, as I didn't find the email until after business hours.

It really blows me away how people get on forums mentioning (or whinging) that a product has failed before contacting the manafacturer  i have dealt with lightforce and found there service unbeatable.
Moral to the story don't smash into walls and don't mount your spotlights further forward than your bullbar (it is illegal anyway). i will would lightforce today you'll be pleasantly suprised just how good they are to deal with.
Mate. You should read his posts properly and read in what attitude it was said in, before you get on here ranting.
It really blows me away when someone puts up a post (To Dealers), and it is obvious that they are not overly concerned about it, then someone else gets on here and rants and blows it all out of proportion.

Just rang lightforce and they put me onto a local distributor for replacement reflectors (the bit broken in the initial post).

My light force have been on rallycars and 4x4's for the last 6 years or so and the reflectors have tarnished a bit (smashed into many trees and embankments over that time too, without breakage) so are nowhere near as good as they once were and I would like to replace them.

Lightforce 240 replacement reflector - about $95 ea.
Lightforce 170 replacement reflector - about $75 ea.

Not too bad really and they can get them in 3-4days.

I sent LF the details - again I stress NOT to ask for warranty but because I thought they might be interested, and they asked for my contact details.
I supplied those details yesterday, unfortunately after business hours, and today they told me the guy who asked for the details is off sick today, but that he'll ring me either tomorrow or as soon as he gets back to work. Sure can't fault them on communication with clients.

I looked up their XGT lights today, and I found I was wrong, they are not metal bodied. But will probably still be my next step in lighting if I have to replace the 240 blitz's

You pushed them into a wall with 2.5 odd ton of 4wd. What did you expect?
Speed had no bearing on this.

yea, seen quite a few 4wd's with big spots that hang out past bumper/bar, often thought this is a little dicey. But with some designs of bullbars/bumpers/spots, u dont get much choice.

Why would the "2.5 odd ton" weight have a bearing on this if the speed doesn't?
This is not legal advice.

You prob also need to take into account how heavy the brick wall was.

In all seriousness i would have done exactly what you have done. Contacted Lightforce to see what they said. From all reports i have heard from both here and the GP they are a great company to deal with that are more than happy to help out where they can to keep their customers loyal.

And there was defianatly no issue with comming here and asking others what their experiances have been with breakages of these lights.

I once e-mailed lightforce to get a part number for the XGT leads/plug (which i had butchered/broken myself) and they e-mailed me requesting my address so they could send me a new one. They sent two.
I had also e-mailed them previously regarding fitting HID alloy spacers to my XGT's (to allow for some adjustability of the beam) and they got back to me within hours with a very informative and educated response.
Fantastic customer care - the best I've ever received from any company who weren't trying to sell me something.

Do you still have the email? If you do please post it here, sure it would be of interest to many (or me at least)

OK,
Well true to their word, they rang me today.
As I was fully aware, it's not considered a warranty issue.
They did tell me a few things that I wasn't aware of, such as the age of these lights. Apparently they are over 5 years old. When you buy second hand, you have no idea of this sort of info, especially when you buy second hand through a third party.
However, despite that, they want to help out, so in the interim until I get around to the upgrade to XGT's that I want to do, they'll try to send me a set of working second-hand ones that come through on warranty issues.

That is so far and above anything that they needed to do for me.
I'll certainly give them 250% for customer service.

Yeah this is by no means the first tale of way-above-the-call-of-duty customer service from them either. It would make me want to buy some of their lights except that every carnt seems to want to steal them!

I think you would get squished too if you were the lights between the wall and a 2.5T truck, no matter how fast the truck was moving.

Polycarbonate = basically indestrucible. (UV not counted)
The whole poitn is you can squish them and they wont crack. 10tons would flatten them, but they still shouldn't crack. Thats the whole point of polycarbonate.
UV has dmage these making them no longer ploycarbonate but now something else.

Good to hear - did they mention anything they have done to make the new lights more UV stable? I would expect light bodies to last more than 5 years. My IPFs are still going strong and they must be about 20yo. But they have some minor rust by now...

No, apparently differences to the mounts, and a difference in the point where the light body attaches to the whole kit-and-kaboodle, that apparently had been the source of some cracks when people overtightened them or some such thing.
Maybe I ought to paint the next set to protect them from the sun

I have just finished a film where an actor gets attacked by a possessed snake and he defends himself with a hand held spotlight, the script originally called for a large glass lensed light that gets smashed to bits, when I suggested using a lightforce hand held spotlight as the beam of light would remain on the whole time he was smashing the bejesus out of the snake, the director had the script amended, we used the lightforce lamp, I challenged the actor to try and break it and try he did,

the result,
lightforce 1
snake 0
4 takes didn't change the outcome.

No other light I know of would have lasted one take, let alone 4, and the light still works perfectly.

It makes me proud that something this good is made in Australia, by Australians and sold the world over.
