Engineers Certificate Needed??

Post by driftpig »

If i changed a 91 hilux 2.8 diesel engine over to a 3.0 diesel would i need an engineers certificate? Been told i would if it was a 2.4 originally but not if its a 2.8... Any thoughts or help guys?

Not sure about the engine but I know for sure in Vic. you cannot
just get a certificate for the engine mod. The engineer has to give
a certificate for the WHOLE vehicle. So if its lifted, diff wheels,
bullbar, lights, gauges, seats etc etc etc they have to do the
whole thing along with the engine mod.

Its Vicroad's rules not the engineers.

Really sucks I know :x

so if it needs a certificate i'd be stuffed, but if it doesnt need one, im fine?? Surely someone has put a 3.0 into an earlier hilux !! haha

Found a really good buy, but its a 91 with a 3.0 in it, and im really worried it will need an engineers cert.. The owner assures me its registered with the 3.0 in it already, and vic roads siad it does need one, and when i rang an engineer he said it DOESNT need one IF it came originally with a 2.8, this is because its less than 10% displacement increase.

If Vicroads say it needs one then it needs one. Everyone else
can say what they like but their the ones with the power.

My talks with the Engineer were "If thats what Vicroads specify
then thats gospel no matter what I think" Their GOD. end of story.

Still sucks I know.

Mind you if its already registered with a 3lt in it the chances of
somone questioning the conversion is probably minimal. ?????
