That's great news. Why swap out a toy for a dana 44 or 60 now? The new longs plus shafts plus highpinion plus arb shoud be able to hold up to the new 40" tyres that are around these days without too much trouble.

Hmm interesting stuff!!!

Does anyone in Aus sell those fancy axles?
And do they cost sh1tloads?

I know snake racing sells the longs does he have the new style ones like in that post that turn sharper?
Is it cheaper to buy direct from the US or to go though someone like snake racing?
Paul.

I was working out a few figures last night and you should be able to get Two Longs and two axles for under $700.00 AUD then add freight. But i am sure people with connections could do it cheaper!

Oh yeah forgot to mention that I got a price from snake racing for longs.
$650 each
Maybe it is worth getting them direct from the states.

Sounds like a plan. I'd be up for some axles but I'll be keeping my CVs (COREs). Would like some longs as backup but not worth it for spares - just yet anyway

Guys as someone who regularly ships from the states, think about the following, import duty freight (container to Docks, Shipping and then freight to factory) Bank charges on the Letter of Credit. GST and then perhaps a little margin for you troubles etc.

Maybe Rhino is cheap.

How are your Core CVs going? Are they clicking or anything yet? I know my longs sound like they are about to fall out but they have had a lot of work. I think there is a chance my RH one is broken. Will know at the Outerlimits Weekend

I do Agrea with you Locky but the fact is if you can land it in Aus cheaper then why would you buy it here?

99% of people are going to buy them here because they dont know any better.

I buy my tyres here because it is a pain to ship 4 tyres. But small stuff like Longfields and Adapters are easy and cheap to send in the post. And rarely do you get charged import duty. Customs dont seam concerned with small items.

Remember longs are classed as a second hand part. They are not NEW. They were only new when Bobby buys them before he modifies them.

Mine were landed here for $900.00.

Thats when they were more expensive and also the exchange rate was around the .58 mark. Now the Price of LONGS have come down heaps and the exchange rate is around .71

Also some people were getting them here cheaper than that!!!!!!!

So at $600.00 each. MAYBE R.....O ISN'T SO CHEAP!!!

Hey I dont wanna start any arguments or anything :)
I got nothing against rhino. I have bought stuff off him before and I will be getting a heap of stuff off him when I do my SAS.
Just saying that it sounds like maybe there are cheaper alternatives.
Especially seeing as I know someone who may be going to the US soon and filling a sea container with car parts for himself.
I may be able to get my stuff chucked in for a carton of piss

Ummmm......lets just say that the wheels are still turning :D

The passenger side one started clicking slightly (I could hardly hear it and thought it was tyres grabbing leaf springs) according to my spotter and a few onlookers at ASCC (round 2 I think). I pulled it and cleaned it and found chips on the inner race and scores on the outer race as well as heavy scores on the outside of the bell. I had Brett come over and look at them. He basically said just keep going out and pushing them till they break. He also told me to blend the top and bottom of the insides of the knuckles as that may have been the noises.

Since then I have only driven them a few times and only once with the front locked and hydro (Logan Night Run). I only did the first check point and noticed that by the end of the night, the drivers side was clicking severly. The following day I locked the hubs and tested them on concrete and the drivers side is definately clicking loudly! But as Brett said - go out there and pound them till they break :D

The locked front with hydro will give them a good workout I'm sure.....

Lets see if I can break one on the outerlimits weekend

i've read that there are issues with the CV eliminator kits that the uni that has to be used is too small, and there is little strength gain at all, compared with stock axles. the US guys talk about it a fair bit on pirate and that.

i have read this also but i think if u upgrade to CTM's there is a huge strength gain, but dont quote me on this as i am not 100% sure...

You would still be limited by the strength of the shaft ears.
Built, not bought.

Darren moon has been runnig them in his 40 serries for at least three years and broken only three runing 38" swampers i run a 383 chev and 36" swampers and i have only broken 1 axel the unis are $30 and a long axel cost me $400 cheaper than longs and i got it over night remember it upgrades everthing not just the CV im upgrading to totaly diferant diffs so no good to me i will take $800 if any one wants it

This conversion is defianatly not cheaper than Longs by a long shot
And if it was better then why are all the guys in the US that are still running toy axles now running longs rather than the eliminator kit?
Warn dont even make them any more.

They don`t make the whole kit but they still make the parts for them.

Who cares what the guys in the USA are doing? We are in Australia mate. Sorry but to me the yanks just plain and simpal think they are better then everbody else and that is the only reason that I hardly ever go to the Pirate BB anymore.

We now have just the same sort of stuff over here, we just don`t have the large areas of rock that they do, but many of the rigs over here are just as good if not better then the ones over there, Mogrover, Ballsac, Dobbins, Cheezy`s, then step down to lux`s and there`s Hypo`s, mine, Ruff`s (old n new) just to name a few.

So any idea why they only make parts for them now and not the whole kit?

One of the biggest problems for them was the life time warrenty they offered with them, and the fact that even though they were only good for up to a 38 inch tyre people were running them with bigger.

From what i hear they stopped making them because they had more than a 10% failure rate.

I just did a quick search on Dogpile and found about 20 different people that had broken inners and outer axles and were only running 38" tyres.

Now if you can break an inner or an outer on a custom WARN axle before the Spicer 297x uni breaks then there is something wrong with this product. These axles are supposed to be made of 4340 alloy.
