80 Series, 1HD-FT, oil light
G'day, I'm new to the forum and have got a '96 1hd-ft 80 series. I have a problem with the oil warning light coming on when the engine is at hot idle. I believe there is some sort of sender on the side of the sump that activates the oil light. I have tested the oil pressure with a test guage and am happy with the oil pressure. (28 psi at 750rpm and 68 psi at 3000rpm.) I think the light has nothing to do with the pressure anyway. I was thinking that the light was just a warning of a low oil level. My oil level is at the full mark on the dipstick as i have just done an oil and filter change. My next step is to pull the sender from the sump and clean and inspect it for any obvious defects. Any advice on this would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I've never seen mine come on ever... although I don't ever seen any oil consumption either. possibly the float has spring a leak?

x2 cheap insurance, the sensors can be a bit tricky at times, at work after a service the same as u have done, iv had them play up before, but because the oil levels right we just send them back to work and order in a new sensor. Sometimes the problem is gone by the time the new sensor turns up, but we replace them anyway. No idea what they cost cos i dont pay for them Might aswell try pullin the sensor and having a fiddle with it, couldnt hurt.....dumbdunce wrote:yes the light is oil level driven off the sensor on the side of the sump. the switch is expensive to replace but cheap insurance.
Is it normal for the diesels to use oil when it is getting old....as in 4-5000kms??dumbdunce wrote:wow...dow50r wrote:Put some extra oil in...how far up the dipstick is the level?? Mine has just started coming on too...oil is down 10mm from full....
