sils and sliders all in one?

I have some rusted, smashed up sils on the old mk. Im thinking of replacing them with some rhs like the communal wagon in this thread.

I was wondering if its a bad idea to put some braces from the sils back to the chassis to create sliders that are built into the body? This way i wouldnt loose any ground clearance and i would have some protection. I know the body sits on rubbers so i guess its supposed to have some kind of movement? What effect would these built in sliders have on the body/chassis etc?

it hasnt damaged anything as yet and they have copped quiet a few blows.
they also lived thru it landing on its side as did the body mounts etc.

if the body mounts and or floor are stuffed already id repair them tho:)

the problem i see with running some supports back to the chassis would be that it will create a pain in the ass if you ever have to take the cab off the chassis in saying that those sills i made for the the wagon and for my own truck dont budge at all the most you may have to replace is a body bolt if it shears off but i would rather do that than have to smash a dint back out of a pannel

plus from wat i have seen from yanky land and from a few other boys on this site that have done it they do the job perfect and even look cool

it will actually help brace the body up a bit. but they offer no protection to the doors at all. maybe do the sills to get rid of rust or whatever then do some proper protruding sliders for panel protection. this is from experience too, they have stopped the car rolling a few times even.

I`ve cut out my sills completly and replaced them with 75mm box. joined at the base of the A and B pillars. Made cab mounts out of the same material. Retained the original rubbers and put 12mm bolts and nyloc nuts. It made the cab mutch more solid and they work great as sliders. Can also hi-lift jack of them
