Found this beauty the other day when i was getting some exhaust work done on the truck!

LN106, 330,000kms, 1992 model.

Its the front drivers spring hanger, and the front weld on the hanger itself has fractured almost completely through! :shock:


Should be alright to just clean it up and MIG it, right?

Also seen them split fron the spring mount up to the top of chassis and even on unmodified stuff just clean it up well and if your a compenant welder you should be right 2mates and mine have cracked there but keep checking it

iv got an 82 model :armsup: and the same thing,same side,happend to mine as sik lux says clean him up, weld him up and keep an eye on it ;)

My 89 model did exactly the same thing, and yeah i just cleaned it up and welded it on both sides and is as good as new!

this must be one of toyotas common things i had to have mine done not long ago for the same reason and same side but i did find that the anchor pin on mine had rusted and swelled which stopped it from working so all the strain went onto the mount..

Generally that crack happens from lifting the springs and retaining that stupid torque rod setup. Same thing happened to mine and after i went to x-over it never appeared again.

It is nothing new, I have welded up about 30+ customers front hangers while they are in getting work done. I normally do it for nothing.

Mine whent up the side of the chassis rail and underneath. Cleaned up and fixed. Time will tell if it happens again. I have removed the torque rod thing because i have X over steer

Mine has a crack in it i have to weld, how does cross over steering help it?

The steering box isn't pushing foward and back on the mount and while your mounting up the new box you can also brace it a bit. Also removing the torque rod lets the spring take more of the force from bumps and so on

Yep thats the only crack my chassi has ever had, welded it up and have never had it aain as I went to cross over not long after that.

When going to cross over you remove the front trac/torque bar and this then frees everything in the front end up and releaves a bucket load of stress on lots of different mounts.

I've also seen the WHOLE trac bar mount get fully ripped out of the chassi leaving a big hole in the side of the rail.

Having a tared down chassis for an LN65 thats been 'recently' sanded back and sprayed I'd have to say: Toyota doesn't have great qualiy control on their welds. Or at least didnt in 1984. Not just some small looking welds but the terrible splatter everywhere. Anyway the MIG took care of some stuff, now it looks too neet :D .
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

I did that to mine twice, half the motorvation for x-over came from that. Never had a drama since.

that happened to mine just cleaned it up and rewelded. well see how she pans out.
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer
