Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

I make that about a 29.5" tyre. So basically standard size, just wider.

By slow do you meen top speed, or acceleration, or both?

Get your pump checked mate, might be worth advancing it a little.

Check your air, and fuel filters, if the've not been done in a while.
Also drop in some injector cleaner, moreys/ chemtec etc etc etc, and see how it goes.
Have the tappets been adjusted in the last 50k??
That can have quite a difference if there out of spec.
Does it have an air leak in the fuel system, that can knock hell out of its performance, and fuel economy.

if u want power dump the 4cyl d and go petrol v6.! or v8 , but youll have to go easy on the box n clutch /revs. its just power to weight mate, simple equation.
ive bin runnin 2.4 22r petrol motor which has a host of bolt on hotties but its a bloody oily engine leak wise and carbies suck!but i blow away lots of competition aceleration wise,
