37's on 15" or 17" rims?

Post by Freakazoid »

I am running 35's on 15" rims at the moment. Want to upgrade to 37 soon and add beadlocks. Is it more adviseable to stick to the 15" rims or go up to 17". Easy to get rims for 15" but tyres a bit more difficult. Difficult to get 17" rims but tyres easier.

Difficult question to answer considering your location, down here 37s to suit 15 inch rims are widely available from various manufacturers.

My intention is to come over in 2008 and do OBC. But seeing as we have no comp that style over here, I am building the vehicle almost entirely based on what I get from this forum. And the advise from some our guys who have done it before. The intention is to try and at least get to the end of the comp. So just one of the multitude of issues is tyre and rim choice.

i'd say from the top of my head that 15" tyres are a lot easier to find in 37's than for 17" rims... i have just played around with 35" equivelant (315/75/16) on 16" rims and found it hard enough to find a suitable combo let alone trying to do it with a 17" rim.

My preference would be to run 15" rims with mechanical beadlocks for OBC. (not that i could afford to compete in OBC  )

Yeah, OBC is really dear for us, especially the fact that we nee to ship and fly over there. Thats why we try and build up and pick a year and all go. 2008 is that year. We'll see if we make it.
