Don't bother with sliders... If you want to add all the capability slider give you just unlock one hub.
Sliders are pretty much a waste of time - I put them into the ute chop and hi lift jack category - they look the goods but serve no useful purpose.
You will hang up on them everywhere and convince yourself that they are "saving your body" because you were hung up on them, when in fact you would have driven through that obstacle fine without touching anything if you didn't have them.
Remove the plastic cover over your sills (if you are WT) or the rubber strip (if you are NT) and rivet some 3mm alloy over the sill, leave the bottom edge long and hammer it over the pinch weld. you won't damage the sill on obstacles and won't loose any capability with two grader blades on your car.
I have built sliders for sierras which fit up into the sills. (The end result is a little bit like boatsiding) No capability is lost. Here's a couple of photos. It's not actually as much work as you think and doesn't really need any special tools (there's no bends in the tubes) but a small notch has to be cut into the floor to clear the frontmost tube. This car has about 1.5" of extra sill clearance to the bottom of the tube but can't really be damaged. They were done on this car because the sills were rusty and full of bog.

I agree that the sills on a LWB vitara are vulnerable. I have made some sill protection for LWB vits that fitted onto the body and had 1/2 a tube under the door. All 3mm thick. Again, no loss of ground clearance and no grader blades back to the chassis. They were built for CJ, he might have some photos. They certainly worked.
There are ways of protecting the sills without ending up with the same sill clearance as a commodore, that's basically my point. (I think this is a bigger issue on a vitara than a sierra.

You haven't been 4wding until you have used a highlift jack , we have used them for winching , lifting vehicle out of rutts , changing tyres , climbing steps and braking beads , straightening bars and body panels so for the price they are a good investment , but buy the genuine article , not the copy.
Sliders are useful and if made right don't impair a 4wd's progress at all , also used for lifting the car from and if you don't want your sills rooted , stop all lower body damage , Cheers Paul.

BLOWNZUK 1.3 efi,sc14 supercharger,hilux diffs,detroit lockers,stage 4 rockhopper,6 point cage,35 muddies.
I dropped on them, slid on them and rubbed on them pretty good and they worked well but it was a good days work making them and a bit of mucking around to get them just right. Speaking of which Steve..........

I have been 4WDing with a hilift jack, once or twice. I have never used on myself offroad, only in the shed, which is where it stays.
I don't have anywhere on my car to use it for lifting, always go 4WDing with others so don't need it to winch, therefore always have another car around to break a bead with, and straight body panels
I use it a bit in the shed, mostly when I want to scare someone by dropping a car off of something.
I agree though, buy the genuine article, on the genuine ones the handle is removable and the handle is eleventybillion times more useful than the jack its attached to.
I also carry an actual hand winch, tyre spoons and a hydraulic jack for tyre changing when I am on a trip- I'm not an idiot.
also, on a weight vs usefulness ratio, they are too heavy to take in a sierra IMHO for how much they get used.

I have driven the length of the slider up against rock with no issues. The beauty of this design is that there is nothing to get hooked up on and I lost all of a few mm in clearance under the sill plus they could take everything thrown at them. Not only that but you didn't even really notice them at first glance either, kept things looking kind of Factory. It's just a pity that they won't work on my new Vit.

Id prefer to get hung up on a rock and do a small recovery or adjust of driving than have to fix panels!

Im not arguing that sill protection is useful and needed in a car with any value, I just question the way its done in many cases. They shouldn't reduce the capability of the car because that's self defeating. With some thought about what they are there to achieve, you can build sliders that actually improve the cars capability.
It's a case where a solution for a tall heavy car isn't the right solution for a low light car, which is true for lots of suzuki modifications.
I think Mart was having a dig at my Hillift opinions. That's OK, I know lots of people don't agree with me on that, but if it makes poeple have a think about chucking 15kg of steel in the back of the car when they can't, don't or won't use it - thats all I am trying to do.

i actually have a set of 6mm steel sill protectors, they either bolt or weld over ur existing sills, and the onlt clearence u lose is the 6 mm of the steel, i have seen these cop a flogging and not damage the car at all.

Replace the whole sill with box section
Thinking of doing mine with angle and flat to created a long triangle (45'd sills)
Got to look into it further but I might put four plates back to the body mounts

I got sliders but they didn't do much when your dropping on to rocks!
Notice the 2 dints where there mounted! Only have 2(each end!) bolts holding them in! Probably should of had 3 but the rock i DROPPED on and SCRAPED along would of totaled my car if the sliders wernt on!
