Post by me3@neuralfibre.com »

Has anoyone played around with Oil Analysis / Filters etc and the 1HZ. I'm doing it at the moment and would like to compare notes.

Im interested in your results. My opinion is that you're wasting your time, an indirect injected motor like the 1HZ loads the oil with soot and fuel pretty quick, so long before the oil starts to break down it is completely loaded with carbon. If you had a direct injected motor it would be worthwhile.

Craig Vincent suggested similar and you are both probalby right. I'm hoping that regular (5000km) filter changes with the Z334A filter (trying different brands as well later on) may help, as the bypass stage is fairly fine.

Failing that I have some part numbers for Baldwin and Donaldson to add a large ultra fine dexternal bypass filter. It's not too expensive.
At $100/oil change every 5000km these things pay for themselves fast enough.
5000 and 10,000km results just came back as "pass". Soot levels are up on the 5000km results as are some of the wear metals. None of the levels are up to the 1KZTE type numbers I tried this with last time.

Mine is probably worse off than normal as being turboed means more soot off boost, and more work on boost.

Im sure it would be beneficial as a preventative thing, being able to find out if water is getting in, or bearings or other hard parts just start to let go.

A lot of mining and transport companies do this to deteremine when a rebuild is necessary.
