how to keep my 2H motor running cool
i have just bought a 1989 model landcruiser with a 2H motor. the person who owned it before me installed an after market sprintex super charger. the motor runs a little hotter than it should i want to be able to tow a boat and want the motor to run cooler what is the best way to achieve this.

it may need tuning with the apropriate diagnostic gear
Not sure i have spoken to his mechanic in canberra he is sending me all the info of what they did with the motor. the radiator looks brand new i got told by a mechanic today that it could be the clutch fan. he said he would put a new clutch fan in and put a cooler thermostat in, between $600-$700 would that fix the problem and does that seem like a fair price
No i don't how can i find that out. what do you mean by EGT. The radiator looks brand new filled with coolant. i was going to get the radiator flushed and check the thermostat. The only thing is the guy i bought it off spent quite a lot of money on this car and the motor and if that was all that was wrong with it he would have got it doneTapage wrote:Did you know how much boost it run .. and how much EGT get ?
Already Flush the rad and check the rad cap .. ?

EGT is exhaust Gas Temperature, and is essential in correctly tuning a diesel.chomper wrote:No i don't how can i find that out. what do you mean by EGT. 600 - 700 AUD ..?
Check the fan clutch it's really easy .. at mornings engine totaly cold it could be free ( move with the engine stop with one finger ) and at hot engine ( normaly running temp ) it must be " locked " or acopled.
It meand you can move with the hand or at least hard to move ..

if he's gonna repaint ya house also that seems like a fair price
PD blowers create high intake air temps, from that comes high engine and exhaust temps, you may have to turn the fuel down to cool it down. You can fit an aftercooler, water to air is generally easier with a PD blower, you can fit air to air but its a lot of work including raising the blower significantly enough to get air in and out.

it only got hot going up some hills when i drove it down from Canberra. Since i have been driving it around town it hasn't got too hot but it is running hotter than it should. I have it booked in to a mechanic on Tuesday, i will get him to check the EGT, the thermostat. and get the radiator flushed.plowy wrote:egt = exhuast gas temperature
to see if the eng is over fueling or under fueling , basically to see if it is in tune
try the thermostate as its cheap n easy to do
is it hot all the time or only when u give it a hard time ?
Don't worry i'm not seeing the mechanic that gave me that quote

buy the way thanks to everyone with helping me out on this really appreciate it
test 1
1. engine cold
2. you can move the fan ( fan clutch disengaged ) free ( with one finger )
test 2
1. engine at operative temp
2. carefylly try stop it with engine at idle or stop the engine and try move it and it will be hard to move ..
better ..
