Good luck, let us know how you go. If you are happy with it, highly recommend getting an inspection from the likes of RACQ on it...just to be sure..and can help with price negotiations if issues are found..

Well I am very nervous as I am going and doing this on my own today so I am not sure where to start the negotations at...they want $9,990.00 for it but I want to start at about $9,400.00 and pay a max of $9,500.00. I have never had to do this before!

Is this private or dealer?

I wouldn't even mention price until you are 100% sure you want it, have had it checked etc.

If 9500 is the max you want to pay, I'd start at 9, maybe even 8800. If they don't initially budge on price, mention something you think is wrong with the car, or say that you simply can't afford that price, see if they move.

Being a girl can help here...pick out things like specs of rust, dirty anything, say you'll have to pay to get that fixed up so you don't feel it's worth what they are asking...blokes will roll their eyes and probably drop the price a bit :) :)

Finally, always, go for a walk before committing to anything, clear your head, gives you time to really think about your purchase...if you have doubts about anything, ask, listen to their answer, and think about it...

Never rush into a purchase like this, it's a big commitment...worst comes to worst, they don't drop the price, give em your details and walk away...either they'll come back to you, or you'll find another car...not worth making a pressured purchase..

That's a better figure...gives you $500 to negotiate with rather than just $100 if you started at 9400 :)

Good luck!

I have found that most dealers will drop $1,000 without too much hesitation to get the quick sale so I would start at about $1,200 to $1,300 under the asking price and work very slowly upwards from there.

If they come close to taking off a grand say $700 or $800 just give them your final figure as $1,000 under... if they won't give it to you just start walking away slowly and get on the phone like you're discussing it with someone and shake your head and say "nah asking too much".

9 out of 10 they will chase you down the drivewayand give you the grand off.

Play hard to get and get the best price!!

That's how I got $2,000 trade in on a $500 car when I bought mine.

Well for all the stuffing around I have had from them, they should knock that much off. I was told on Saturday that it was ready so I rang today just to make sure before I took time off work and was then told that it still isn't ready and won't be there till tomorrow!

Yeah, delays in stamping new numbers on engine block and chassis.... difficult to access.

Do a REVS check on it!

Nah, you'll be good, REVS check is always recommended, even from a dealer..

Hey..if the worst happens and it falls through, you'll gain valuable experience in what to do...but bit of luck, and it will go your way..

They sound keen to sell it if they are doing all this work to it, so stick to your guns and see if that price drops....you just have to remember to cover yourself agains the bad (revs and the like) just in case...

Gotta love that stuffing around ;)

You could always buy mine, just ignore the bumpers not lifted, the rattles, the fact one side has a stripe and the other doesn't, the tyres are getting a bit bald oh and the stickers on the front and rear windows :D

I've actually been thinking about selling it for a little while..as I'm not working and the monthly payments are putting serious dents in my budget at the moment...

But I just don't think it's "ready" to be sold for the money I'll need to pay it off...probably around $10k...

Unless someone wanted it with the welded diff and the bumpers still needing work.... If I was to sell to a dealer etc, they wouldn't give me much looking like that....

Heh, if it was me and they called to say finally ready to be driven, I would ask how much they would pay me to take it off their hands...
