if it a dd it'll drive you hard having to rev the ring off it. if it's purely off road crawler it'll be ok

Hmmm, you'll be revving pretty hard.

If everything else is stock, 4093 RPM @ 100kph.

That's pretty high for a 1.3 to only end up with 42:1 crawl.

That's the problem with 5.12s- they're not ideal for either solution.

For reference from my setup:

- my car is at 3322rpm at 100kph with 107:1 crawl- 4.1's in the diffs, TT 6.4:1, 34" swampers.

That's a bit low for my 660 to spin with load on board, as it's below peak torque.

I will be going to 5.12's, which with Q78's (full 35" tall) will give me 4020 in 5th @ 100, but that's fine for a 660.... and 134:1 crawl - way too much, but it should be plenty fun.

Bear in mind, I'll be at 2000 rpm at 40 kph in HIGH 4TH... which isn't much taller than a stock sierra high range :D so off road high range will be plenty useful.

didn't intend this to be all about me, just pointing out that you need options and I don't think that 5.12's really give you options until you have very tall tyres and transfer gears.

maybe you would be better off calculating revs at 80km/h :D

If your LWB is a 1lt (4speed) dont get them you really need a 5th gear unless your happy with a top speed of about 80kph at semi-sensible revs

It currently holds 100KPH, just, in 5th on flat ground laden. It does 100kph easily in 4th. That's with 4.11's and worn 34's

Once I go to the 78's, my current 4th will become the new 5th - it'll run 100 fine.

It's not theory - I run a GPS as a corrected speedo.

I will be playing with a bit more power too, if I can keep the boost threshold below 4k it should rule. I will have 130 kph @ redline (6500rpm) in 4th gear, so it might even be able to overtake something too... like maybe a dead wombat :D

I'm shooting for 100hp, have probably 70-75 now (67 stock, but I have more boost) so i know I'm not kidding myself.

Can't give you a definite answer.

Only you know what you want to end up doing with the car.

If you want transfer gears and want to run under a 33" tyre, I would say no.

If you don't ever want transfer gears and maybe a 32" tyre, then yes.

If you want to build a big car with say 33"+ then yes.

I already have 5.12's sitting at home to go in the new diffs.
