G'day,
I'm having issues with fuel pumps in my dual fuel maverick. engine is a tb42. originally it had a electric fuel pump but petrol wouldn't really run well so i thought i would put the mechanical one off my spare engine on. hooked it up as per standard and the fuel pump was working although it made a audible ticking sound as the engine ran. didn't think it was too much too worry about and in my hast tested it out.
went for a drive and couldn't get it to fire at all on petrol. so this morning i started pulling everything off and checking where i had petrol to. discovered that the lock off vavle was working and when i flicked to petrol it would open. i pulled off the fuel pump and the arms has been wearing severley at the tip of the arm so something was wrong there

In the above diagram will the pressure still be releived out the return line while the valve is shut or has that setup caused my fuel pump to shit itself? what setups do people run with mechanical pumps and dual fuel?
Thanks for reading,
-Calvin

Mechanical fuel pumps with dual fuel
Mate i have a Maverick TB42 carby with a manual fuel pump on gas. I have a fuel lock solenoid fitted to the fuel line that feeds the carby. The return goes back to the tank out of the fuel pump. It is set up from what i can gather the same as yours. Its been this way for 2 years and never misses a beat, i can turn from gas to fuel and it does not even stall.
By what you said of your fuel pump fitment you have fitted the fuel pump arm on the underside of the cam and thats one of your problems.

I ought to report you to the f#cking RSPCA neville.
Just realised what i have done wrong. i read the manual just then regarding installation and it mentions and insulator. i didn't take the old one off my spare engine when i pulled the fuel pump off should have read the manual in the first place.
Need a new fuel pump now and i hope the cam is alright :S
