Any Nissan mechanics here? Or Navara guru's? Need info asap!
Any Nissan mechanics here? Or Navara guru's? Need info asap!
I've been smacked with a last minute task which includes getting to know everything there is to know about D22 Navara's.
If anyone here happens to work in a Nissan workshop or knows lots about them (any issues, tiny or major) and can help me out by answering a few Q's please pm me or email v84runner@gmail.com
Alternatively anyone who's heard anything worth noting if you were looking to buy one for example, feel free to post away...
Cheers,
Nem

deisel D22's came out with the same motors as the later D21 and terannos had ie 2.5(TD), 2.5T, 2.7(TD), 2.7T, 3.2(QD), 3.2T, then finally the 3.0T (ZD) and 2.5T (YD).
also the later D22's are sometimes called the D23 due to the face lift they had.
one pain in the butt is the ZD30 full throttle at half way.
EGR valve (like most egr valves) tends to stick and cause a few problems.
gearbox switch sometimes packs up resulting in a very gutless motor.
AU/NZ models miss out on the exhaust brakes and don't get the option of locker diffs (only rear LSD).
seatbelts that don't fully retract is a minor pain.

Thanks for the info mate. I'm steering more towards the later D22's for the purpose of the task.
Those latter things you listed are great. If you know:
Is the 'gearbox switch' something that can be checked for operation on inspection? Assuming this is for the auto variants...

Is there any ZD30 navara that has an auto, like a japan spec one?
Dad had a stroke a while ago and is having trouble managing a clutch at the moment, but before he had the stroke we got the truck just the way he likes it with suspention, dual batterys and heaps of other stuff.
If i can source an auto for him i would like to swap it in so he dosent have to sell it.
Sorry for the hijac mate!

Stay away from the YD25 ! I have a couple of them between my customers and plenty of them die before they reach 100k km's. The steering is one other weak part if taken off-road or fitted with bigger tires. The center drag link is very weak and wears out quickly.
'04 Nissan Terrano 3.0Di ZD30 *pimped*, some Zooks & '87 GQ
as mentioned on the nissan forum, squeking drive belts. also had bearing failure due to mechanics overtightening the belt to make it quiet.
also timing chain tensioner wear and failure.
(ZD30)

i don't think they where ever sold new in AU and only in 2WD in NZ. the dieing seems to be the lead free bearings on the euro models.Offroad-Events

Mainly any querky issues that happen in more than one. For instance, if your mate was going to look at one to buy and you had heard about a few things, you'd tell him to make sure he checks that the "......" and "....." aren't buggered or playing up.bogged wrote:what sort of info are you after - anything specific?-Nemesis- wrote:Excellent, thanks guys. Keep the brainstorming comments coming

check out http://www.nissan-navara.net/index.php
there is a tech section on d22's
Alot is for o/s models but you get a fair idea of issues there.
Hope this helps.
