Hi Guys,
Been a while since i have been here. Been pretty busy with work and getting divorced, but that's another story best left unsaid.
Got myself a Maverick, pretty sure now it has a 2 inch lift, which is good, as my conversion would'nt have worked out as well without it.
Here's a couple pics.
Engine is an EL Fairmont 4.0L with Tickford head, and running EL XR6 ECU. Stainless steel extractors, running to a single 2 1/2" system
Still have a bit of sorting and tidying to do, but i am happy with it so far, albeit with a slight problem with the gear-change, which i think i can fix....well i hope so.

If i had've had the smartlock bypass module connected to the right Green/Violet wire it would've fired first go......oh well. Helps when u get proper instructions, and know the right pin numbers.dansedgli wrote:Great work!!

The only parts i got from dellow are the bellhousing and clutch plate. Those cockheads caused me to have to fit and re-fit the engine 4 times because they said i need a special clutch fork to make it all work, then tell me i just have to use the Nissan one. The slave mount was out of alignment as well!! They absolutely dont have a clue, and couldn't engineer a piss-up in a brewery.
Extractors are 6 into 1 and built by me, as were the engine mounts, dellow ones were sh1t.
Mattsluxtruck, I was thinking of doing the 5.0l windsor, but decided on the easier option, and i can always turbo it later. Standard airbox has had the arse cut out of it, to make it fit. but you can't tell. I am yet to connect to to the fresh air inlet from the guard.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure BA Turbo wont happen, as the BA sump is huge, and without a huge lift-kit, and aftermarket EMS, it'll never work. I have a couple issues with the ISC to fix and get the timing right and i'll be happy. The second-hand gearbox with supposedly 80000kms, feels like there is something stuck inside, as it is hard to find some gears sometimes ( and, no, before you think it, the clutch is working perfectly ).

I must admit you are 100% right about Dellow now days. I bought a complete kit and the only parts of it I used without throwing them out and making new ones or modifying them heaps to work are the bellhousing and the clutch plate.
They do not even have the brains to tell you what thread they tap the slave cylinder attachment ect out to. Makes it difficult to get bolts!
When I questioned them on it particually with the throwout bearing adaptor I was told "its your car that is wrong , we dont make mistakes"
Arse pains to deal with nowdays.

Does not get any easier than that. Make sure you check clearences between your input shaft and crank. Also use the 3 finger pressure plate.mattsluxtruck wrote:It is a complete new bellhousing. Why use the 3 finger plate? I have put an EL XR8 HD one in mine which is a diaphram clutch and it all seems like its going to work.
We did have some spaceing issues with the thrust race sticking too far out. But throwing away the dellow spacer and extending the fork ball by 12mm fixed that right up.

Maybe by spacing you have solved the problem but by using the old 3 finger we did not have to modify anything and it all works perfectly. Dellow tried to engineer it, i re-did their fuck-ups. As i previously mentioned the clutch slave mount was out of alignment. I modded the original nissan clutch fork for a closer to the pivot push point. I have since found out that the GU Patrol uses a slightly larger master cylinder, so when i get enthused to pull the motor out, i will fix the clutch operation up to perfection.mattsluxtruck wrote:Who engineered yours Dazzle? I have an adjustable push-rod, which is adjusted right up. When i fit larger master, then i can slacken it off a bit, and then the throw-out bearing wont be riding the diaphragm at all.
There are two types of pressure plates for fords, a high and low diaphragm. I originally got a low one( for free from the guys i bought gearbox off). This was a big part of the problem i had, but dellow were absolutely no help whatsoever!!!
I have a slight gearbox issue atm,(not going into gear as easy as it should) as i had to do an auto to manual conversion, as i was told by the dellow tools that i could get an auto b/h, then get told when i went to pick it up, that they dont make an auto one. man i was fuming!!!! I wanted a manual, but the car i bought was a good deal so i thought bugger it, have an auto.
Had a play with the timing and seems to be running much better and not choking when u boot it. No trouble spinning the tyres in the dry in 1st and 2nd, wet weather should need a gentle right foot. Will get engine looked at soon, have to finish tidying up wiring and fit new seats and carpet.

Ive been thinking of doing this conversion later down the track, but i will want to be going a auto at the same time. Does anyone make a adaptor to mount the GQ transfer case to the ford auto or will i have to adapt a C4 auto to the engine and get a C4 to GQ transfer adaptor?
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

If you really want to use this combination, then u will have to make your own adaptor. I am pretty sure it could be done, but how much do you want to spend??? Marks adaptors are all around the $1000 mark, so if he had enough demand then he would make a pattern and do the ford stuff.
He does the chev and holden bits, as i guess they are the most common, and fairly popular. From what i have seen, it is a bit of a squeeze to put a holden or chev V8 in a patrol, which is why i went for the ford six, which is pretty powerful for the size, and alot more performance parts available for it, compared to the Nissan I6.

hmmm, i have a few problems with doing this, there are some obvious benifits to running the windsor block though. what ecu are you guys running because its obvious that the ford one wont work properly, was thinking of a wolf 3d or something along those lines, also ancillarys did they all fit ok?
