80 Series lift qns, and other random qns

Post by vSAHARAx »

Hey All

Well i have taken a step up in the world!!!!!!! i sold my beautiful old HJ61 Sahara to make way for the Turbo Diesel 80!!

I bought one today (1991 factory turbo) top old truck (fairly stock but not for long). I plan to fit a 5" lift. before people tell me to search I HAVE! From searching i know for certain i need (castor plates, panhards, brake lines, sway bar extensions) but what about rear control arms??? do i get adjustable top arms or adjustable bottom arms or both??? What about steering arms???? are they long enough??? I want to do it properly! no cutting corner! but i dont want to spend more then what i need to. Gonna run 33" tyres, will they look stupid under 5" lift???

Also the motor runs a little rough at idle when its cold, then when it warms up it runs like a charm, what could be causing this when cold???? any ideas??????

thanks in advance Troy

p.s does anyone have any photos of their 5" lifted 80's on level ground, wanna see how tall they sit.

33's on 5 inch lift in my opinion look shithouse. I have 35's on my 80 series with a 5 inch lift and they don't look large.

--Most of the time you do not need to extend the break lines, but worth checking. I had heaps of length on mine and so did my mates.
--You won't need any adjustment on the rear arms.
--You will have a problem with the front drive shaft.
This can be solved by either a double cardin joint, or installing a part time kit. Both options will set you back about $600, plus installation costs if you go for the part time kit and get someone to install it for you.
I went for the double cardin cause I like being fulltime FWD, cause i'm lazy and I like the traction I get on gravel roads.

when i bought my car, it has a (saggged?) 2" ome lift and 33" silverstones. now has 3" dobinson coils/procomp shocks and the car looks good. i think 5" coils would look silly with only 33" tyres imho

cheers

The drop boxes go at the back of your control arms to correct the Castor thay cost about $380 give or take not many places do them but if u hunt around u will fined some one to do it for u
did the pic on level ground not work i can send u a few more if u wont.
