gq radiator shroud - 1 piece or 2?

Post by joelt »

about to do a 2" body lift and after reading a bit and asking around, i have been told that there is a bottom section that clips off. however, mine seems to be all in one piece. it does look like the fan will not hit the shroud once lifted as the fan looks like it is setback a bit from the back of the radiator.
its an 88 td42 - i'm sure others have come across this so any help would be great.

It should be 2 piece, if you lay under car you should see the clips.

when i did my 3'' lift (td42) a mate took the shroud turned it upside down and redrilled the mounting holes.

it fits perfectly and doesnt cost a cent

it should be allright for 2'', just check it out when your remarking the holes to redrill.

cheers smitty

My 94 GQ had a two piece, the 95 GQ has a one piece. I don't know if the dates mean anything but there's definitiely at least two types out there.

91 TB42 Mavericks have one piece plastic shrouds (so they do indeed exist)
Another idea:
If it is a one piece or two piece, can grab an old buggered soldering iron, or a butane gas powered 'hot knife' (heck, even tin snips), and just cut out a large semi circle 2" down to fit around the fan. Should come out sweetly.

my last GQ had a one piece shroud.the latest one is a 2 piece.i originally didnt do any thing to the one piece at all with a 2" body.but while in the bush it slightly touched the fan.a slight u shaped trim with the pocket knife fixed it for good.

if its not 2 piece, just attack it with the 4inch and it will be in as many pieces as you wish :D
