f!*(^*#&ing drive shafts

Post by rocky-td »

Hello
I'm still putting my F75 back together :x
Engine is now in and running, but I tried to bolt up the driveshafts to my new gearbox and the bolt pattern is different :bad-words: . The new 'box is out of a F70, transfer has mechanical engagement. The old transfer had vacuum engagement.
Does anyone know if I can swap the drive flanges from the old transfer case to the new one? Or do I have to source a different set of flanges for the drive shafts?
Thanks

Nah, this one was diesel. I thought F80 were the petrol ones?

Correct, F7x is diesel, F8x is petrol.

Check the unis out. If theyre ok, then it may be just as easy to change the ends of the tailshafts. Do your unis have the circlips toward the middle of the spider? or are they outside the needle cups? If they are the first type, then measure across the bolt holes on the drive flanges, both diagonally, and each side. They should be in a rectangular pattern, not square. Also uni diametre, and diametre of hole in centre of flange, where the lock nut is. Then post the measurements.
If the numbers are correct, I have a heap of the correct tailshaft ends. I can send you a couple for nix, you pay postage, and then just fit them to your tailshafts.

Thanks for the offer. The unis seem pretty good, they move smoothly and there's no slop. I pulled the flanges off the old gearbox after I posted, I thought it would be difficult but it turned out to be really easy, mostly thanks to a recently acquired rattle gun.
I'll see if I can get the flanges to fit on the new transfer case, if not then i'll gladly accept your offer :)
