Bigger Tyres = Less Power? More Fuel?

Post by burtbunch »

Hi All,

Quuestion: I have just fit 31x10.5x15 muddies to my NH 2.5TD. After recently spending a lot on the engine to recover lost power I have now lost power and fuel economy. About 100k's per tank!! And the dreaded black smoke is back again!!. Will my new tyres contribute that much too fuel economy and Power? I think the black smoke points to something more sinister...

More time on the hoist I think..

Sounds like a turbo issue. Something is definatley not right, your 31's would have made bugger all difference.

Black smoke = Wrong fuel mixture.
100 km's per tank = Wrong fuel mixture (or a hole at the tank  )
Man, this an insane consumption...

No mate,

I lost 100 per tank. I'm down to 500 from about 600 around town. Crikey 100 per 80 litres jeez I'd have to be an oil Baron!!

Yeah, I just got back from the workshop that fixed it. They reckon I got dirty fuel. And Embarrassingly I had a slightly blocked air filter element. (Beach Driving)!!! New element hasn't made too much difference tho so I will see what happens with the fuel. I'm only buying BP from now on.

Cheers
