transfer case temp
transfer case temp
how warm is a zook transfer supposed to run? just got the 6.1 gears in and took it for a drive ,just seems a little on the warm side?
How hot is hot ?? does it burn your hand to touch hot ??
Mine gets warm (4.16 gears) but it's not to hot to handle hot after a long drive ( I have done oil changes on it after 100k or so drives as i thought there was a bit of water in the oil ..

Generally speaking there is enough movement from the gears to move oil around. Dunno zook specifics, but if there isn't then a heatsink could be attacheed directly to the case.

Hey bazooked, what "weight" oil are you running? Just wondering because i'm guessing that as it's heat is increasing, it would be giving less lubricating protection to the gears in the x-fer case right? (higher temps = reduced viscousity yes?)...
Apparently the g-o is to run something in the area of 140W with a rockhopper... If you are running less than this, it may be worthwhile getting some to protect those li'l gears.
Cheers.
