High Mount vs Low Mount Winch Questions ?

Post by CWBYUP »

I am doing some research on winches for when I deck my truck out.

Its a GQ LWB wagon that will be turned into a ute and I'm wondering what winch to put on the front.

I am wondering what people think of standard High Mount Warn Winches ?

I was thinking H/M as it leaves me more options for down that track but If they suck without mods I might be beter off without starting with a Low Mount ?

What are peoples thoughts ?

If you can afford the highmount then get one for sure. If you find you don't use/like it you can always give it to me :D

Hey Nick,

Highmount all the way mate. The main mod that is really worth doing is the brake shaft mod as they are known to let go from time to time. Having said that I know of people who have done several OBCs without any mods to their highmount.

Low mounts are fine, but if youre setting it up for the future for comps, get a highmount and get some mods done at a later date.

If you are interested you can come and have a look at mine and I can show you a few tricks to do to them.

Cheers, Paul

does a warn 9.5XP (or whatever it's called) have a higher line speed under load? But slower without load? (compated to highmount)

Just curious - net is too slow right now to do my own research :D

I love winch that I don't need to deal with integrated solenoids .. just put it whatever you want ( the solenoids in the non intergrated winch style )
