Lockright rear 80 series
Hey guys, looking at a lockrite for the rear of my 80 diff.
on the catalogue from the states it shows rear cruiser diffs from 69-97 are the same but it states *fits open carrier only
So WTF do i do??
how do i make it fit or were the rear diffs open in the states or something?
I dont have the funds for ARB in the rear i do have an ARB for the front waiting to go in.

No your lockrite won't fit into the lsd housing, you'll need to change it. As you have a spare, you should be ok.
As said earlier, sell or swap your LSD for an open diff and you'll be right, just a small bit of advice go for the Lockright Powertrax Noslip Locker it's much smoother in operation and not much more expensive. The one you want is a 30 spline . The following numbers are on the boxes I got with mine both front and rear, which are the same as your diffs.
RG92-2080-3001 Front and RG92-2088-3005 Rear. I got mine thru www.rocky-road.com great prices and fast delivery from the USA. They were $1200.00 for the pair when our dollar was 73 c US . Should be cheaper now it's at 90c US. cheers Troopy93
Just had a quick look on their site and the total cost including shipping and insurance is $1098.43 AU for both or $607.36 for just the rear.

i will check the prices, lockrite is $300 at central 4wd +postage etc.

It might be easier to redraw on the mortgage and get an ARB airlocker.

Yep . With the Noslip it really is difficult to tell there is a locker fitted, in 10,000km on mine iv'e only heard a click 2 or 3 times from it. Just had a look at Rocky-Roads price for a std Lockright and they are $258.00 US + Postage for an all up total in $AU of $436.12.
Central 4wd $300.00 US, if there postage is the same total cost would be $AU of $483.90

You can buy a lockrite for the lsd...i think that is the 300 one you mention...they are not that good...yes they lock, but because they lock on the teeth of the side gears, which are alot further appart than the teeth on a lockrite full replacement centre....i found one axle would always be unlocked till power, then lock up...also if the lsd is worn, they can give you grief on not unlocking when you want them to...
Personally, i would buy something like a detroit or better still a air locker or prolocker...if you intend to do alot of road work...a bad side effect auto lockers have is spitting axle studs from the short side from the hammering and lack of torsional twist on that short side

Sorry but no Lockright Locker will fit an LSD Centre . LSD centres have 2 cross pins where the open diff has only one pin. I had one and i installed it, ran it, ended up putting it up front in the 60 series cause it would pull left in 1st, right in second, left in 3rd....all depending on what axle was locked in and being driven... they were two cups with 4 pinion reliefs, that had springs between them holding them on to the side gears of the lsd...you took the sun gears out and installed these in their place. $wd systme used to have a locrite option for a lsd center but as far as I know never worked .I had a go at fitting it couldnt make it work so the guys at the shop spent 2 days and many phone calls to Adelade to try to make it work still didnt happen eventualy fitted an early model 60 series cruiser open center diff with a standard locrite locker never had a problem after that.I never broke them running a 6.2 v8 diesal sold the car to a moron who used to do 4x4 burnt outs on the bitumen still never broke the lockers good product.

i decided to put it in the too hard/much trouble basket.
I used to have a lockrite in the rear of my FJ40 and thought it was an awesome product and value for money.
but this new FJ40 i already haev a frotn locker and compressor going into the 80 diffs, so ihave ordered an air locker now.
got a good price though
