every month i see them advertised in 4x4 traider for around 7 grand. bloody cheap i reckon, i think most people are scared off as they are computer controled. i cannot see them been any harder to fit then a modern fuel injected petrol motor, just have to be sure the gearbox will mate up to it. HDJ105 may know as he knows a bit about them.

A lot of guys are getting them out of the 79 series cruisers to drop into 105's and that- theres a lot less dicking around with them- the 100 series engine needs the 100 series dash etc...

Gday
the 100 series hdfte has an imobiliser that means you need to use the 100 dash and maybe keys.
The 79 does not, so it is the pick of the bunch...also...the 79 is not intercooled, so pistons are made of nice stuff to resist heat...good for boosting later
The safari turbo and manifold will fit, and will be a better proposition to std turbo which is quite small...you will notice the only thing needing changing is the round manifold holes to square hdfte ports...not that much of a deal even if you leave it as is...
The hdfte will bolt anywhere a 1hz/hdt/hdft goes...the wiring is ok to splice in...wreckers at Archerfield have done many, also heard of one done in west Sydney a few months ago....U can buy the wrecks from pickles in Brissy for 10k roughly, the diffs are 4.1 and centres fit straight in the 100 to replace the 4.3.

Hi Dow50r, can you give me any names of the wreckers in Archerfield who are doing these swaps. There seems to be a few in that area.

Id only be guessing...there is another guy on here that knows them...do a search on hdfte as it has been talked about b4...

Sorry, not really much help. I too have read the HDJ79 donor is the way to go due to less connectivity issues.

The one 100 series truck I did see part way through conversion had the entire dash assembly removed to allow a complete harness integration, I certainly wouldn't want to do that to my truck (and I didn't by staying with the 1HD-FT).

The one in Sydney was out of a 79 and went into a 105. No need to change the dash... a auto leccy known as "sideshow bob" wired it all in to a 105 in about 4 hrs. Pretty easy according to him. They changed the motor and box and were able to mix and match shafts to suit. The owner is stoked with it.

The owner is on here now and again.

is an imobiliser that hard to get around? i would have thought if you worked out the wiring of it you should be able to bridge it. or are they computer controlled and the chip in the key talks to the computer not just the ignition?
