What vehicle for Sanden 508 A/C Compressor

Post by Timbo(Rodeo) »

Ok so I've done the research and found the most popular air con compressor for an endless setup is the Sanden SD508. Now the problem is finding what vehicle they came on so I can specify this at the wreckers (as most wreckers don't know the specific model of compressor)

Does anyone know what vechicle had the SD508. And if I would be lucky enough to find a vehicle that also had a 6 ribbed serpentine belt. I'm fearing most that ran this comp would have had a V belt?

Cheers.

Lots of diferent cars ran the 508, from sigmas to volvos....

The wrecker should be able to locat on in his yard for you ( after all they are far from the rocking horse shyte level in rareness )

The belt may be an issue......... can you add a Vbelt pully to the crank pulleys & step the 508 further forward ?

I'd rather not modify too much of the original engine pulleys if possible. But it may be an option if all else fails.

Hmm I have a friend who is a panel beater...and is mad for sigmas :) Might give him a call he has busted sigmas sitting around everywhere.

Cheers.

All of the Mack trucks we have in our fleet runs a sanden 7 series compressor, maybe 24v clutch but a truck wrecker could be worth a try.

Well after a quick hunt around at lunch I found a place that has a couple of SD508. However they had V belts.
Thought I would give heatcraft a ring and see if they have a listing for a clutch/pulley assembly for a 6 multirib belt.
They took some details and said they would call me back. About an hour later an engineer from Sanden themselves rang me. Said it is pretty hard to find a pulley to fit, they don't make them anymore.
Grr!!

So it might come to finding and modifying a V belt pulley onto the front of the fan or idler pulley.

Have to do some more investigation.

Thanks mate.
Looking at the bosch belt guide the Telstar had a 5PK belt for A/C and the modeo 6PK. So the Modeo could be a posibility. Now just gotta find a wrecked one :)

Well I've found a compressor. Just have to see if the PV6 clutch from the 9540 model will fit on the 8390 model I have. And if in fact you can still get a replacement clutch for these models.

Official word is in. Sanden no longer make or stock a PV6 pulley from the 9540/9546

So I either have to find a SD7H15 8099
or see if endless air will sell me a pulley (as they have it as a catalogue item for the EA80 a SD508 if what I have read is right)

or find a complete SD508 9540

Quite the pain...

Make some more calls. I dont think your supplier tried hard enough. SD508s are one of the most popular compressors ever used in after market AC Kits.

Although you should be able to find the SD7H15 just as easy on late model after market kits.

Not many Auto manufacturers fit either of these compressors from factory. But there are prob more after market AC kits in Australia than factory kits anyway as they are generally half the price of the factory fitted kit.

He called Sanden directly.
But thats not to say other places would have it stocked. I tried Jayair.com.au They quoted $265 for a clutch/pulley assembly, but again didn't have stock.

Only other thing would be to try repco or bursons but I doubt if specialist A/C places (Heatcraft, Jayair) dont have them in stock no where will?

The local Holden/Ford specalist wreckers have shite loads of TRS090 from late model commodores but no SD5 or SD7H series.

Seriously I've spent the last 2 weeks researching and thinking of every option. I don't want to give up but its not looking good.

I haven't fully put the feelers out to the mainland yet (I'm in Hobart) for other wreckers, because I'm trying to go the cheapest route, as no doubt being a rare option for the 508 (only 2 models in 30 are listed with PV6) they are going to charge shite loads for it.

I havent seen the clutch pack pulled a part on one of these but have heard of guys getting a serpintine belt machined up for one of these.

Can't remember where from I just remember reading it somewhere when i was researching the system.

I have actually pulled mine apart, haven't got pics just at this moment though.
I did give it a thought today though. It would be possible I would think to machine one up. But... unsure what the cost would be, or whether anywhere local around here would even give it a look?

Having exact diagram and measurements of the finished product would be handy too. Have to hunt them down. I found some on the sanden website yesterday. Should find them again and bookmark.
