the years have been good to me, its the weekends that have done all the damage!!!!!
90% of the vitara's had 5.13 Ratio's in the 1600's but some select few also came out with 4.88 Ratio's
when you do it you need to get 2 Vitara front diff centres and strip them of the Ring and pinion and then install them into your diff centres

LWB EFI shoulb be 4.555 and Auto should be 4.875.
Hmmmmm. What model was it? There's a few changes on the way and I'm not sure about exactly whena dn why they occurred.
Anyway, there are plenty of 5.125 centres around, and any wrecker should know which is which.
Remember this is 37% shorter than stock Sierra 1.3.... so you need 35"s to make near stock gearing... Considering that the Sierra is so badly geared for road use anyway..... you will be making your high range about 30% shorter with a series 3 rockhopper.
Hope you like pulling 6000rpm on the highway. Not good for your motor
More people tend to try and get the much rarer 4.6 centres instead, which sounds more sensible to me with the series III hopper.
You'll need two sets of fronts though, not a front and rear.
Re: 5.12 diff gears
Sorry guys,
You've all missed the most important part of camo's thread:

i am thinking very hard about the 34 x 9.5 boggers
they just seem like the perfect thing for a zook!!
2in wheel spacers for some extra width
i am subscribing to the gear it low, keep it light idea
and this is a play car no hi-way work, no daily drive if i have to go more than 100kms from base for a weekend i will tow it!!!

Sounds great - but do you mean Super Swampers?
i don't think boggers come in a 34x9.5... (currently they don't come in 34xanything).

bogger's would be nice but at 14'' wide i just dont think the zook will handle it
still running the 1.3l motor and will be til it dies!!
Comon mate - 14 inches of tyre would be awesome
Running the 1.3 for as long as it lasted was my plan too - sadly that plan was executed much faster than i had expected

the way i drive boggers are going to be to much traction
the guys up here call me "hans solo" because i reach light speed preety often
i sort of like a bit of the throttle action
and with out changing axles i think i will do enough damage

Just dragging up an old post here but has anyone actually fitted the 5.12:1 vit gears to a sierra diff before??
I belive you have to get some sort of spacer but i am not really sure.
I have 2 front diffs but not sure what else is required.
Help?

I had mine installed by someone so i don't know all the details.
However, cruise to this thread for some interesting tech about how to fit them.

I'm pretty sure that the overkill aztec is/was running a complete vitara rear diff (though it was attached with 1/4 elyptic rather than coils).
One issue you may have with fitment to a sierra is that it will be a fair bit wider. (which is both good and bad i guess).

zuker1500 wrote:What about using the compelte rear vitara diff and going to coils in the rear??
Doable, but you need to make up for the 4 inch misnatch in the rear diff width as well as look at a CV jointed drivesgaft to help out with the compound angles created by the centred rear diff centre ..
Apart form that .. it's easy

What about taking 4 inches off just one side of the vitara rear diff and re-splining the 1 axle. that will offset the diff centre 4" also. Then move your spring and control arm mounts to suit the sierra chassis
