Reduction gears for 4runner

Post by 904Runa »

Hi,

I've done a search and read a bit on here but still confused, so quick questions.

With my 89 4runner that would have a chain driven transfer case, it looks like I can't put reduction gears in it?

So do I have to swap to a gear driven case?

Or the other option is dual cases, which I'll need two gear driven cases to do?

Thanks,

ok thanks.

Yeah I've seen the adapters. Does that mean i could get a gear driven transfer case, get a new low range gearset put in that, then remove the existing chain driven transfer and replace with the geared one?

I don't know too much about the different variations of the hilux/4runner transfers, but what were the different ones released (solid axle diesels) in australia, chain or gear driven??

Cheers!!
