I think its funny when people leave comp stickers on their trucks and parade them around like a badge of honour

Using the OBC as an example, i would have thought that ARB and Warn are making enough $$ selling roof racks and low mounts to fleet buyers without having to plaster big stupid stickers over competitors cars, and recieve enough exposure from every second joe public 4x4er with an ARB 4x4 sport sticker worn like a badge of honour on the back window (placed where the rip curl, oakley and bad boy stickers used to sit over time when they were each in fashion!!!)     The arb stickers look pretty funny on Boltons TJM GU

Do event organisers make competitors put stickers on their trucks, because "racing cars have stickers all over them" and somehow the organisers think that if the competitors vehicles look like "racing cars" their event has more credibility??
If 90%+ of competitors are running synthetic rope and have it wrapped around the horns on their front bars is it important that they also have a cheap looking dynamica sticker on the bonnet??

After reading dirtcomp magazine it seems that none of the offroad buggies have similar gaaahy stickers plasted all over them like a daggy school uniform. Does anyone know how the offroad racing entryfees/prize money compares to 4x4 sport??

I can appreciate the need to have coverage for the event sponsors but will there be repercussions if someone decided they didn't want to run with them and are competing in the event?

to enter australian safari is around $6500

the sponsors in our sport get stuff all for their money, some pics , some stickers on cars maybe 1 or 2 direct sales if they are lucky. the main thing they get is name recognition and exposure.

Funny thing is the more I think about it I don't think I've ever taken any notice of what sponsors stickers are on rigs when looking at pics after events. But I do always read what sponsors an event has/had in mags and on flyers etc.

I'd prefer event sponsors to put up a little bit more towards the event so that competitors never have to pay an entry fee. Bloody hell it cost them enough trashing their rigs as it is. This would be a way that does reward the true comp rigs out there. The more comps you do the more help you get. Even giving a few less prizes could help get rid of entry fees.

Stickers on competing rigs mean jack IMHO, Niether Ozrock or Werock run event stickers on the buggies. We do however have big banners up in the best spots that end up in most pics taken. Best thing with this is the banners are reuseable at each round and stay clean.

I still feel that the fact that competitors promote the products that the spectators buy, a trade discount for the 30 or so drivers would be a good investment for companies that manufacture or service the 4wd industry, you may find that the sticker will stay on the cars longer.

Having said that, looking at some rough numbers, the event sponsors do make a big difference to entry fees.

although theses arent real numbers, they demonstrate a point

example 1)
30 car entry fees $375 each $11,250 14%
10 stage sponsors $300 each $3,000 4%
1 event sponsor $5000 6%
4000 spectators $15 each $60,000 76%
TOTAL $79,250

To cover the same costs of running an event, if you had no sponsors, the entry fee would have to be approx $642 ($267 more)

example 2) no sponsors
30 car entry fees $642 each $11,250 24%
4000 spectators $15 each $60,000 76%
TOTAL $79,250

So sponsors do make a big difference to entry fees, the biggest opportunity for the sponsors and competitors is to work together to increase spectator numbers.

Working together to promote the sport is the best way to get a win/win

At the end of the day we build our trucks and race because we enjoy it. If we get a sponsor or two well what a bonus.

Kingy has done a great FAQ on this subject under general chat, its worth a read (takes a while)

I dont think event sponsors should be putting stickers on cars unless the entry fee is free. It must Pi$$ off sponsors and embarass compeditors when contradicting stickers are plastered all over their cars.
