Hi All.
I have read all of the posts (I think) regarding tyre and rim combinations, but have not been able to find an answer for my specific setup.... If I have missed a post with the info that I am looking for - then please point me there!!! ;-)
Ok.... I have a 91 WT Sierra soft-top. It has a 2inch spring lift, and is about to get a 50mm body lift... With that setup, what tyre/rim setup would be advisable???
I was thinking (assuming) that 31's (or maybe 32's) would be the go, with sunraysia rims (F100 perhaps??)??? I am happy to invest in wheel spacers too -if required (I AM aware of the extra strain this causes the wheel bearings.)
I am confused!!! I guess I am really looking for someone who is running a 2inch spring lift AND 50mm body lift, to let me know what tyre and rim combo works for them!

i have what u want and works well with 31s in all terrain tryed so far. i agree on gearing and will depend on where u want to drive.

I am pretty sure that all the f100 rims that fit the sierra's (some have different centre holes and do not fit as I'm told) are the same offset and definately alot better than stock for that reason and extra width.They will not need extra work to the offset unless you plan a very wide car, the f100 wheel is the maximum offset sold for the sierra stud pattern so it makes things alot easier.
I have a couple of sets of f100 steels I plan to be using on my car and planning a similar setup to yours with suspension and body lift and the 31's sound like a good choice for this setup.

15x7 f100 rims yep. i have two sets here but have not run the other set yet.
basicaly hang out 1" or so outside std WT flares i think.

Buy SPEEDY steel rims not ROH TRAK II.
Speedy have the "correct" offset for a sierra, the only offset available on ROH rims in 5 stud 15X7 is incorrect for a sierra. (correct for an f150 and vitara, not sierra)
speedy are lower quality and cheaper, but a better product for the application.

He says the ROH rims suit the Vitara and the F150. The vitara is an IFS vehicle, usually IFS vehicles are suited to more inset wheels, and live axled units like our Sierras are suited to outset wheels. I haven't used of compared "F100" rims, however i have bought Speedy 15x8 steel wheels with -28 offset. This is the greatest offset rim that you can buy from a store which suit sierra stud pattern. AFAIK this is the F100 rim most people are talking about (i.e. -28 offset). The equivalent offset in a 15x7 rim is around -15 from memory. These WILL stick your tyres out from standard WT guards (easily fixed with bigger flairs)
I have run both 32" mongrels (only measure about 31" but 11" wide) as well as 32" BFG muddies (actually measure 32" and 11.5"wide) on the Speedy 15x8 rims with -28 offset. Both these sets of tyres still rubbed on full lock, however if you were to run 31" normal muddies (i.e. bfg, wranglers etc) i reckon you'd get away with no rubbing on the springs. To stop the rubbing with the 32's i had to extend both steering stops about 10mm.
So in conclusion, unless you are trying to buy "F100" rims second hand or something, just go into any wheel joint and ask for 15x7 or 15x8 Speedy rims to suit a sierra stud pattern with the largest negative offset.

With 15x7 there would be less risk of the tyre coming off the bead at low pressures. In saying that, i've regularly ran my 31's on my 15x8 rims at 10-14psi and have had no problems, they bag and grip quite well. Most of my driving is slow speed and im aware of the low pressures so no high speed cornering etc.

I have found going off the recommended rim width for tyres they say an 8.5" rim will suit a 10.5" tyre. That has been on most muddies anyways.
However they say it is possible to use a 7" rim up.
So does that mean that if I run the recommended rim width the tyre at lower pressure it is more likely to run off the bead? Than a skinnier rim.

Would this be suitable, or will I have scrubbing on the springs etc. I estimate from measurments of my existing 15x7 -25 alloys with 205 road tyres, that I should get about 1/4" clearnace with the 15x8 -23 rims and 31x10.5 tyres at full lock. But this is an estimate only, real world is usually different.

How do you muck around with steering stops on a Sierra? They are the bolts in the swivel hubs arn't they, quite a unique shaped bolt, and getting bigger headed ones could prove difficult...Pezooki wrote: ps- I would be happy to muck around with the steering stops if required...

i run 31x10.5 radial claws on the speedy 15x8 rims with a 2" bodylift and OME 40mm springs on a 91 WT. they don't scrub anywhere. i did need to bash the rear of my front wheel wells though, but thats no big deal. i also have a set of 215 wranglers on the 15x7 speedy rims. my claws stick out past the WT flares about 1.5" but i just did the bunnings garden edging. so far i have had no problems with driving around at 8psi you just need to be careful.
