Need a REASONABLY price 50mm socket

I need to replace a wheel bearing (front) and I am sick of doing it the bodgey way (hammer + screwdriver = damage)

WHAT SIZE IS THE HUB NUT THAT RETAINS THE ASSEMBLY
is it 52 or 54mm?

I have been to every local tool outlet (9 of them) and nobody sells a reasonably priced socket, the cheapest was $90
Bit steep for a tool which will hardly get used

Does anybody know who sells 'cheap' ones
KC make ones which are like are pressed like a tube spanner with a socket drive on them, but they start at 52mm

$100 is a bit rich for a tool that will be hardly ever used

the ones KC make are good and cheap but they only come in 54 and 55mm and only cost about $40

I;m pretty sure I paid under $50 for my repco one. 3/4 drive, so I needed an adaptor to 1/2 too, but still I don't recall it being $90.

As has been said before, it's a touch short, but I do my bearings on the bench anyway (pull the spindle) so it doesn't matter.

I sent my missus to town to get mine.. She came home with a repco 3/4" drive breaker bar and a 50mm X 3/4" drive socket. $35 for bar and $25 for socket.

it disaperd a while ago tho.....
works rather well!

I would not recommend taking a 52mm hub socket (tube fabricated, no?) up to 90Nm on a 50mm nut. It's far from ideal.

I looked for a 50mm hub socket and found they are not available.

want33's pricing for the repco stuff is line ball with what I remember.

My King chrome socket cost about $50 from memory. its a 3/4 drive. adapter was $15 from memory. Get an early christmas present and invest in a torque wrench. Its the reason that using a socket is so much better.

Yeah got a good old school torque wrench
The old man actually won it for being apprenticeof the year

A few years back we were looking at buying a new one but decide it was better to old one re-calibrated.
Cost the same as new on but we now have one as accurate and better built.

i can vouch for red_zook that it was the correct size as it fitted perfectly over my locking nuts too.. then fitted straight up to the torque wrench.

I think Phill read the 52mm in my first post and mixed it up with the actual 50mm size
The issue is with 90nm of toruqe and an oversized socket is quite dangerous
Using any too incorrectly is quite dangerous

Well Repco are shiat
They have a 50mm 3/4 drive socket for $31 (part number RT7150)
Everytime I go down there for something they do not have it in stock anywhere in Sydney. Woy Woy, Woolongong, Nowra and Cowra all have them but freight is more than the socket and adaptor combined.

No I am not going to do the bodgy screwdriver and hammer, already wrecked one hub in the past and will not do it again

The 3/4 drive breaker and 50mm socket I got from Repco still have the price tags on them.
The 3/4" breaker bar $35.00 incl GST part #8016475
The 50mm socket $25.00 incl GST part #56950F both are FORCE brand.

Single hex imact socket, should last forever

$70 the lot

Done the job but there is a little taper on the hex which limits bite on the first nut to about 2mm when it botoms out on the washer.
Going to get the old man to grind it down a little

huh!? like a dag from the manufacturing!????

There is a small taper on the leading edge of the hex to make fitting on the nut easier
This effectivly means the hex starts 2mm from the sockets end. On a 4mm thick nut that means only 2mm is covered by the hex

Oh I have a deep 50 MM socket and torque wrench avail for $25 or a sixa of JB black a day should anyone need to redo wheel bearings in melbourne
