Hi all,
I have an 90 dual cab- ex 22R, now with VR V6 and the G143? axle code.
One thing that %#@*% me about this conversion is the unnecessary and excessive highway cruising RPM (3300 approx).
Other than fitting the T 700 4 speed auto for its better o/drive ratio, what other options exist??.
What ratio is the G143 code- and what other gearsets are avail. for the Tojo diffs??
Surely there must be an aftermarket manufacturer out there who has seen fit to make a more highway friendly 5th gearset for the Tojo 5 speed manual.
Any advice appreciated.

My 1990 LN106 dual cab that originated as a 2.8 diseasal has the axle code G285 which is a 4.3 diff , I think yours will be the 4.875's.
I am just in the finishing stages of fitting a 3.8 with a shift kitted T700 and am hoping for slightly better results for highway revs although am not too worried.
I wonder whether you might want to swap 4.875's for two lsd 4.3's????

Fit bigger tyres
My V6 runs pretty high revs on the highway with 4.88s and 30" tyres.
A lot better with the 33s on.
You could always fit diesel diffs 4.3 or 4.56 to lower the revs a little there are heaps of them around for sale all the time.

I have a 253 in mine , different motor but have had same problem, 3200 rpm at 110k's. I just fitted 4.3's and the difference is phenominal. Rpm has now dropped to 2800 @ 110k's and much better fuel economy. I am about to fit 33's as well which will drop it even more. If you are worried about the effect fitting 4.3 diffs will have on the utes bush capabilities, just wait till the gearbox blows up (trust me it will mine lasted about 4 months), then get a heavy duty 5 speed from Marks 4wd adapters. They have a 5.15 first gear compared to the hilux one which is ?3.85 I think. Just stick it in first and you barely need any throttle it will climb anything.
i am also very interested to hear about how to lower rpm, my newly bought 89 vp v6 lux can be very thirsty.
Cant tell what rpm its doin as the tacho isnt hooked up, which brings me to another question, can the original tacho be wired up to the v6? I have one for it but dont like stickin tachos on the dash.

I grafted a VN tacho into my combo meter from the VR wiring and it has worked fine for the last 13 years (unlike the Toyota diesel tacho that fails).
The tacho wire in the V6 engine harness comes from "E" on the Direct Ignition Module, under coil packs. On the diagram, it's colour is BR in plug YE55. The Comm dash harness colour is BR/R. It worked for me.
