I think they are designated data transfer channels only...just google uhf channels or something or search here and you'll find the info....

A few years ago channels 22 & 23 were reserved for tele-command and tele-control (or some such shit - NFI what the difference is...)
Voice is strictly banned on these channels, and data transmission is supposed to be limited to a few seconds per transmitter per hour.
Older radios can transmit voice on these channels - it looks like newer ones are unable.
I have one with these two channels blocked also, where as my old one doesn't and they are the same brand. Bought the new one early this year.

My new (12m>) does not even have the channels to access, it skips them all together, did not realise why I was always miscounting channels in the dark and always ended being out by 2......

if any trips you go on use these channels, then you should let them know its not legal and that you should change channels before the trip even starts...
simple as that

So the general farmer or whoever can use the radio to selcall a pump or whatever to turn it on or off without having the massive outlay for a commercial radio and license.longlux wrote:It has got me stuffed why these channels are there they should just allocate two more frequency's

As I said just allocate two more frequency's for normal talk & farmers or whoever that use 22 & 23 can have them programed in.crispy wrote:So the general farmer or whoever can use the radio to selcall a pump or whatever to turn it on or off without having the massive outlay for a commercial radio and license.longlux wrote:It has got me stuffed why these channels are there they should just allocate two more frequency's

the UHF band is already full and theres no room for more channels.
also what happens the the millions of radios there are out there with just 40 channels.
talking on 22/23 is the same as talking on 31-38, it just shouldnt be done.

also i think it might be worse if its a company using the frequency.
why dont they apply to the ACA for a licence and private frequency? or is it a small place?

Big place..already have 2 dedicated frequencies, and they actually use both 23 and 24, 1 in each half of the place.....been using them, foreverj-top paj wrote:id let the boss know that its illegal.cloughy wrote:Nope, speechj-top paj wrote:cloughy wrote:Yep, 22 and 23 are now blocked, handy when work uses 23 in their despatch yard,

if its a large place then they should definately be applying for a comercial frequency.
it wouldnt be so bad if they used another channel but the fact that they are using the 2 channels that are allocated for data and not voice makes it worse.
also theres nothing stopping someone from sitting outside the place with a HL-250U and dropping carriers all day long.

it amazes me how many fools think the same as thisPatchy wrote:what the big deal anyway, not hurting anyone is it?
next time you try and have a chat with your mates with your 5W radios, il drop some 50W carriers on the same channel as you and be an absolute nuisance to you and you mates..
the ACA really need to introduce some sort of licensing system or some education plan to weed out some of the ignorant fools that use radio
not having a go directly at you patchy, but it amazes me sometimes the attitude of some of the people that use radio thses days..

i never knew any of this uhf channel business. i always thought u could use any of the 40 channels. so u guys should tell everyone why we cant use these channels 22/23 or 31-38 even. and why will a farmers tank pump not turn off from a radio? me like most ppl dont know and am qurious.
1993 LWB vitara, Front & Rear alloy bars, towbar, spotties, UHF.
22/23 is for data, 31-38 are used for the repeaters for channels 1-8, a repeater is used for extending your useful range when broadcasting on channels 1-8 as it will retransmit your broadcast on those frequencies. as for the pump not turning off, if you happen to transmit voice at the exact moment the farmers irrigation controller sends its 'turn off' bit across ch22/23 the pump controller will not see the bit, most of these systems don't run a closed loop feedback either so the pump will stay on until it receives a stop bit. (i know they have a timer failsafe if it doesn't recieve the stop bit but the pump will still overrun and cause flooding issues)
