A speed camera would have prevented that!
But if you spend a bit more they won't bust or they will last that much longer that they end up cheaper.dirtyGQ wrote:i like pro-comp because they are cheap and do an ok job, cheap is good so u are not scared to bust them.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
My Koni's are on the list to get rebuilt. Seen the 90series at the 4b show. They look nice. Rumour was even the ATOC lads struggled to get them hot. Not real cheap at a bit more than $500 each though.bogged wrote:had mine rebuilt yesterday to Atoc spec apparently.. they were rootedRoadNazi wrote:I have OME but my friend has Koni . THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....

THE GRASS MAY BE GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT YOU STILL GOTTA MOW IT.
Ok personal opinion but..
Koni are known all around the world because they're just plain old bloody good quality shocks. Koni don't need to advertise. People know when they buy a KONI product it is a quality item.
Pretty much all the other shock brands listed in the pole are only well known because theyve been marketed well. Rancho and OME especially.

Personally i like the Tough Dog.
One of mine spun around and broke the adjuster off. I contacted tought dog and they sent me another for nothing.
One of the guys I'm working with has a set of there shocks on his Toyota 100 series. He works in weipa and regualarly travels up and down the cape. His car seen very little road work and a lot corragated cape york roads. one of his shocks gave up last week after 150000km of cape abuse. Involving 110-160 km/per/hour runs to cairns etc from weipa. ther maybe other brands as good but tough dog has proven itself here on the cape.

Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

All have their positives and negatives, Ome is over rated in my opinion, they just have a hold on the market. Koni's are great but are pain in the ass to adjust because you have to remove them (not a lot of fun on a IFS car like a current Hilux pulling the front struts repeatedly to get them setup right). I have also found that lower rubber bush can flog out on them quickly.
I hope they have improved then, and that is what you are basing your opinion on as the early ones were terrible. Everything I bought that had Toughdog on it broke, rusted or faded very early. Very poor quality and even worse customer service; and before you say it was the way it was used or they ordered the wrong size etc many of the shocks were those supplied by THEM in kits and many of the problems had nothing to do with use at all.PGS 4WD wrote:The tough dogs are excellent, but you must choose the correct one for your needs.

I could name a dozen other people that say the same thing and none of us have ever touched Toughdogs since. I really do hope they got their act together and improved quality and the way they dealt with customers as I like to see Aussie companies doing well but my opinion of them is not good and therefore cannot recommend them to anyone.

Well we put some in the bosses 06 Hilux and had them in and out about 4 times to get them adjusted right..and even then he was never happy with them. Also within 20 000km the front lower rubber bushes were pretty shagged. He then sold that Hilux and got an 07 one, we became a Tough Dog Dealer and fitted 35mm Tough Dog Adjustables and 4Way Springs and haven't looked back since!!bogged wrote:100% correct.chunks wrote:All have their positives and negatives, .
but how often do you really need to adjust them? once they are setup, they are fine.Koni's are great but are pain in the ass to adjust because you have to remove them.

As for the comment about Tough Dog customer service, i deal with the boys at 4Way Suspension (Tough Dog) several times a week and they are great, always helpful and friendly!

Probably because you deal with them 3 to 4 times per week. When I spoke to one of the guys face to face he was not that interested in helping me. After a while he ended up admitting it should not have done what it did and told me to send it back and they would replace the dodgy parts and rebuild it with the new bits or if it was bad enough they would replace the whole thing. When I received it back off them they didn't do a thing to it except paint it a different colour and put a rubber boot over the spring to hide the faulty manufacturing. It was at that point that I decided never to deal with them again. That was a couple of years ago, for all I know the guy I dealt with might not even be with them anymore, but I'm not going to support their business after the bad experience I had with them.chunks wrote:As for the comment about Tough Dog customer service, i deal with the boys at 4Way Suspension (Tough Dog) several times a week and they are great, always helpful and friendly!
