Hi,

Was fitting my new engine yesterday i could not get it to fit properly. I got it in the hole and then attatched my duals to the back of the auto adaptor, bolted the crossmember up and the engine was sitting way to far forward and the engine mounts would not go in with it there as the commodore mount would be on a curve on the chassis and simply wont fit.

As my transfer cases were mounted on the rear mount (1 mount) i thought it may need to be on the front mount, but when i undid the mount and tried to slide the transfer back to meet the mount the engine just simply cant go that far. It will hit the firewall.

Initially i thought it was my crossmember (as above) but i just dont understand if marks adaptors say it will put your transfer cases in exactly the same spot
then mine should line back up with the rear transfer case mount as it was with the 3y manual in it.

If there is anyone out there with this swap in there 4 runner could they measure the distance from radiator support to thermostat housing so i can at least get some idea of where it is supposed to be. That would be great.

Any help appreciated as i am stuck and Marks are closed for the weekend
And i just want to get this blasted thing in so i can wheel again.

With dual cases it will make the drivetrain 6.5" longer, so i don't think it will bolt to the original crossmember location.

Don't hold me to it as I've never done a V6 convo but I think the passengers side engine mount stays put and the motor bolts to that. The drivers side one gets replaced with one from marks.

You start with fitting the engine to the mounts and work back
With the dual transfers the cross member needs new chassis bracket fitted 6 1/2" back. If you have a low profile dual cross member it should??? bolt up

The previous two posts are wrong unfortunately.

The drivers side mount is kept and the passenger side mount is replaced.

You work your way from the transfer case crossmember forward, this way the final position of the new engine mount will keep the whole set-up square and all the bolts will line up correctly ;) . Hoist the engine/gearbox/transfer combination into position and bolt the transfer case crossmember back up finger tight, mount the drivers side engine mount very loosely as you will be removing this a few times. The passenger side will now fit beleive it or not ;).

Try flipping the marks adaptors mount upside down, it confused the hell out of me until I found the right angle but it does fit. It doesn't sit on top of the chassis, it hangs down :armsup:

The alternator pulley on my ln106 solid axle hilux sits 234mm from the radiator support panel, the alternator seems the easiest place to measure mine.

PM me your phone number and I'll txt you a pic of my bracket. Overall measurements between the two vehicles should not be too different I don't think but either way the bracket looks very universal :D

Hey mate,

This is a Leaf-Spring Gen1 4-runner chassis,
with 2" dropped hangers lifted springs and ext. shackles and a body-lift.

I've been helping Dave with this conversion.
what you have posted about starting at the first transfer case and
working forward is exactly what I thought. because regardless of wether
you are running duals or not, the first transfer case stays in the same
position it was originally. (Due to adaptor and 2nd case bolting to the first
case).

Unfortunately daves crossmember was bought on the car booty-fabbed
with only a mount for the rear case, so the front case has no mount.
So we took the crossmember off my hilux and bolted it up to his duals
and the commo V6 and auto box all bolted together.

More progress has been made, but I'll let Dave fill you in on that :armsup:

Can anyone with a welders ticket around Gladesville area, or who can
come to that area for $$ or beer please PM me or Dave ASAP.
We need you to weld in the engine mounts to an engineerable quality.
Engineer says we need a "ticketed" welder.

Thanks heaps for your info mate.

I had to move the drivers mount as well and tinker a little with the passenger side to get it to fit. A little bit of grinding on the bottom side but not much.

I have measured from rad support to air con pully and i got 230 mm. maybe rubbers a little worn or something but i am happy with that.

Can you shed any light on the change of sump from alloy to steel?

It looks like my crossover may hit it but not sure.

I have been really lazy with mine and it isn't completed but have started again a couple of weeks ago.

I will be buying a thermo this week and am going to have a go at fitting a 19" one into the hilux fan shroud and then closing the shroud in around it, I think I might have more fun than I want to with this one but the next size down is 16" I think???

I don't believe you do need a ticketed welder in NSW. I am possibly the worst welder in Sydney and I had no trouble getting mine engineered. The engineer did ask whether the mounts were part of the kit or not, but was not concerned about the welding as it did look reasonably neat and was definitely strong. I'd get another engineer.

True that, although I havent spoken with the engineer about the V6 yet the last certificate he gave me includes shortened chassis with a new crossmember welded in plus the tray. Although I told him it was done by a ticketed welder(my new engine mount has been too) he wasn't concerned on seeing paper work at all.

I probably don't really need a ticketed welder if i go through a different engineer, but i think the reason that he wanted a ticket was because it is going to be done with a stick welder. I have not been able to get my hands on a mig but as i can't really weld or i have never really tried too i would rather get a ticketed welder to do the job rather than getting a mate to do it and then feeling bad if something goes wrong with it. No disrespect to my friends as i am confident they could most likely do the job well but do not want to put that burden on them and i am a piece of mind kind of person. I have lined up one of my mates dads who is a ticketed welder who is going to do it with a stick welder and i have heard nothing but good things about his work and only really wants a case of piss to do it.

I know there are plenty of engineers out there and from my experience they all have different standards. But i have been through this chap before back in my boosted skyline days and he was very reasonable and price was good.
