GU 4.2 turbo 3" exhaust
I'm going to fit a 3" exhaust to my 4.2 TD (intercooled) and was going to go for one muffler. How loud are they with no mufflers, do they drone a bit on the freeway? or will it be too quite with one muffler, I still want to be able to hear it but don't want it to be annoying. I was getting a Beaudesert exhaust system
Ok Exhaust done today.
Good for the money but I had a few issues.
$570 and I was not really after a full mandril system but this guy said full mandril in mild steel for the price above. Nice
Drive the car home and a feel a little more power and im looking forward to the tune.
It has a little whistle now when changing gears
The note is a little deaper but I would say it is not louder then the stock system. This is with a straight through medium size mufler.
I jump under the car when I got home.
1st one or 2 bends are mandril and the last bend on the tail pipe is mandril.
I dont mind so much but I do mind when told ALL mandril (why bullsh*t)
Then while under the car. (not as much clearance as the old GQ, must do suspension next) I notice the brackets hanging down from the front swaybar and a bolt missing from each. Doh
Lucky I found some in the workshop.
I just have 1 question. Im not sure if he did all of the dump pipe or 3/4.
He told me where he started from. Im just not sure what is normally done.
He started at the flange facing down at the ground. Off the cast 90deg elbow.
Is this where they normally start or do they replace the elbow and bolt onto the turbo facing the firewall.
Would this 6" of casting make a lot of difference?
PS. I got a paper air filter on the way home.
I figure oil and dust make mud in the reuseable filters
Cheers
Eric

As much gain comes from doing the cast dump pipe as there is doing the rest of the system, we always include the cast dump in our installations, the standard dump would be lucky to be 1 3/4 inches and is very restrictive.

I tried to get a quote for just the dump pipe, and they said that they don't sell the system in pieces, just as a complete kit.bogged wrote:you can buy the dump on its own from Beaudesert.EricB wrote:ok cool

It looked to be one of the better designed dumps

GU TD42 wagon.
It started with 75rwkw with a bodgey fuel up only (not done by me)
After a beaudesert 3 inch system, re tune, minor boost up, earlier boost cut in - it got to 111rwkw.
Tune done by turbo engineeering in Thomastown vic.
Exhaust temps down, fuel usage down.
Completely different car to drive. So much more torque. Use 3rd gear thru corners where i was nearly back to 1st.
had it over 180kmph (private road).
Water temp doesnt move - even when towing long distances on really hot days.
Couldnt be happier.
