TD42T "Dieseling"

Post by Slug »

Hey all,
Recently put commercial Biodiesel in my TD42T and now the damn thing wants to run on when the key is turned off. Only runs on for a few seconds but it shouldn't do it at all!! Tanks are not low enough at this stage for me to dilute the bio out with normal pump diesel enough for me to be convinced.

Apart from that it seems to run damn well on the bio.

I guess the question is,
Can I outright blame the bio or is there something else that may cause this?

You should run an inline filter before main one. Watch it go black in a week then change it. Next one three weeks and so on. It`s the shit outa your tank as Bio is a solvent. What Ratio of Bio are ya usin?

Thanks for the replies gents. Will ring the servo and check on the ratios but iirc there were 2 pumps.... One was 80/20 and the other 100% Bio which is what I filled up with

(probably not a great idea it seems)

Its best to start gradually - like working your way up with 3-4 tanks from B20 - rather than going B100 right away. I have never had a problem with the fuel cut-off solinoid but suspect it from what you describe that it is more likely one or more injectors which are leaking diesel. When was the last time your injectors were done. Usually they should be checked out every 100,000 kms.

As was said, when running bio you should have a few fuel filters on hand as it will clean all the crap out of your fuel system. I went through 3 filters in less than 4 months. Also, the filter under the banjo fitting on your IP will get clogged up if there is any crap in the system after the filter. That's pretty common. However, clogged filters will not cause run-on. I also second the pre-filter. I have got a CAV/Delphie assembly I got from Hiflo last Nov. Only problem is its still sitting in a box on the shelf as I just haven't gotten around to putting it on.

In addition to bios solvent abilties on cleaning your fuel system it will also soften and disolve rubber. If your IP seals and fuel lines are not the Viton (TM) type material then DON'T USE ANYTHING OVER B10. B40 to B100 will have you springing leaks in your IP and hoses in short order. I have even heard of case of the filler hose to the tank disolving.

Well it's fixed

Ran the tanks almost dry on bio and topped off with regular pump diesel and the problem disappeared. New fuel filter and no dramas since. I guess next time I will try Ausfuels 80/20 rather than 100% Bio.

Thanks for the replies.
