TH700 -> transfer case adapters

Post by Marshy »

I have a TH700 auto that I need to mate up to a transfer case of some description. What is the cheapest option? I know Marks Adapters does a kit to GQ transfer for $970, but was hoping there might be a cheaper option out there.
It doesn't bother me what transfer case I use, as I will just buy one to suit.

Or, if anyone has a transfer case already modified for a TH700, lemme know if you wanna sell it.

Cheers,

Simon.

What about something 2nd hand from a US rig that came with a TH700 originally? A suburban or whatever. Exchange rates are friendly right now.

Thanks guys, awesome info. I've never had much to do with this sort of thing. My last conversion was all sorted for me by Rod Hadfield at Castlemaine Rod Shop in Vic. I emailed him with this one, but haven't yet heard back. So, thought I'd pick the OL brainstrust.

If I were to use one of these remote transfer cases, what would I need to do? Do I still need an adapter plate? Or, just get a small jack shaft manufactured? If it is just the shaft, can I just use the original shaft that came out of the donor commodore, and cut it down and modify the x-fer case end?

Depends what kinda vehicle its going in as to what suits you best
a divorce setup will add length, so if its a shorty, there wont be much room for a tailshaft.
Is it a V6 or V8 T700?

I know of a V8 T700 for sale for $1000 with a hilux transfer already on the back of it......but its in sydney

It's going into a hybrid.

Main car = CJ6 Jeep. (101" wheelbase at the moment)
Engine = V6 VN Commodore
Gearbox = TH700-r4 (out of V6)
Diffs = 75 Series Landcruiser (to be on custom coil setup)

Length shouldn't be too much of an issue. How much extra length am I looking at with the remote setup?

Depends, as little a 200mm over a good married setup.

I personally would use a GQ one, pretty sure I already told you that marshy.

just get the short shaft from the Patrol and the shaft from a Commodore and get the welded together,

Are you thinking this might be the way to go bubs? Certainly looks pretty easy. And, the front shaft is on the right side for the 75 housings.

Marsk's dont list any gear sets for the MQ box.

Wasn't some of the early F100's remote transfer too?

No I dont, only due to the fact you can't get lower gearing for them.

Yes the early F100's had remote mounted NP205/203 but same thing you can't get lower gearing and there stock gearing sucks 2:1

I still am saying GQ

OK, cool. No worries mate. I may have one lined up that's already adapted to a th700, but it's in sydney. I'm hoping the guy is going to Woodpecker. If so, I will get him to take it to the event, and see if yourself or Brett can grab it for me.

We make an adaptor from the T700 to rover LT230 transfer, which has an offset rear output to suit the 75 series diffs, added bonus of 3.3-1 standard ratio and also 5.1 crawler gears. The case can also be modified for front and rear disconnects.....

PM me for more ifo if your interested...
