Its cheap, the only thing with lexan in that way is its a bit harder to get a good finish I found, compared to a factory rear window anyway.

So the whole back a factory panel and if so how much is the panel and where do you get them from. I have seen a GU done this way before, it looks really neat.
Zooks rock, i just wouldn't use any of their moving parts.

The factory genuine back panel for the GQ is about $550 from memory and the part number is N/79100 39J30, the rear window part number is N/79712 10J01, the rear window rubber part number is N/79710 10J00

I think for the back panel, window rubber & window for mine was about $1000 but it looks better using as much factory parts as possable.

My brain and figures sometimes work independent of each other what I meant to write was. I have seen GQ’s done this way before but never a GU, is the back panel of a GU cab chassis. The GQ’s have a humped out section on the back panel where the window fits, in these pictures that section looks flat.

I cant picture what a GU rear cab section looked like but they may have done to it what we did to my GQ and removed the bubble section and inverted like this. :?

Yea its the back panel form a GU ute but we've cut it out and fitted it to the origional wagon rear so a factory window and seal can be used.

mikmav wrote:this might be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.. why chop a GU to a ute body, when you could just get a GU ute body from stock ?.. seen it done to GQ's aswell but never quite worked out why.. maybe people cbf'd moving bits from one car to the next.. but its a boat load of work.
mate when i did my gq - I paid $8700 for a perfect wagon and a ute was 20k. It cost me $1500 odd inc tray and full respray. AND - I could put my seat back!! i'm only 5'11'' but hate driving with my teeth on the wheel.

Here is the whole buildup from the start which it started as a Safari high roof. www.downunder4x4.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2249 & all the detailed pics are here on www.warrenl.gallery.netspace.net.au/mods

The basic specs are hydro assist,18inch fox shox in rear, 14inch Auss shock coilovers in the front, X link, 42s, exteral cage. We still have to build an A frame for the rear and we plan on fitting a 350 chev on straight gas some time in the future when I can afford it.
