Can anyone help me fault find a problem with my parking lights..Was putting spotties on the other day and noticed that I didnt have any lights on when i switched the lightswitch to "parking lights"..
checked the fuse and it was blown so, as i was doing spotties and it had nothing to do with parking lights i left it until now and when i replaced the 10amp fuse it blew immediately..upped it to 15amp..pop..upped it to 20amp...pop..thought bugger this, i just want to see what lights should be coming on so i put in a 40amp..
well it didnt pop but within seconds i had a burning smell and still no parking lights so i pulled it out and thats where i'm at...
When i look in the manual it says my parklights have a different coding to what i actually have, and the indicator lights match the coding..
Now all other lights work fine, its just the park lights from what i can see, so friom this point on I'm lost..
Anyone have any ideas?

QG patrol parking lights problem
Moderator: -Scott-
Yes, troubleshooting this could be a long and slow process.
First, do your taillights work when your headlights are on? I would expect parkers and tail lights to come on together, but I guess some vehicles are different (what is your vehicle?) Do your dash lights work?
Fundamentally, you have a short (I guess you already knew that. )
We need to find out if it's in the wiring, in a globe, or caused by a globe creating a short in a socket.
Start with the obvious stuff first - have you shorted a wire while installing your spotlights?
Did you earth all your spotties direct to the chassis, or did you splice into another wire which seemed to be earth?
Check your brake lights - do they all work, are they all the same brightness?
Try taking all your parking globes out, and see if the fuse still blows.
Can you scan your wiring diagram and post it?
Good luck,
Scott

I only bought the patrol a month ago and think the problem may have been there from then..
Used a wiring harness for spotties so only wired in to the high beam, battery and an earth
tailights and dash work fine even though fuse is blown and it says its for tail lights..
I'm lost .
.i have a multimeter but i think the short/problem is up high in the dash..maybe a previous owner farked something up..lotta weird coloured wires going to odd places, but as i said everything else is working so totally lost...maybe need an auto electricians help on this..
duh...its a GQ patrol lwb 91 not a QG as in topic..

1st of all... have you put a new head unit (cd player) in it since you bought it?? Or has it got an after market cd player in it? If so cut the earth wire and earth the unit to the body.. we get alot of ppl in here who hook the earth wire frm the unit to the park light wire (has a neg feed to it when the lights r turned off) then replace the fuse and see if the lights come on..has it got a trailerplug? if so check to see if the brown wire (parklights) isn't touching a metal surface or the white wire.. As was said in 1 of the other posts it's hard to diagnose the prob w/out seeing the truck. Hope this helps
